Harry Coher was a legendary athlete
Against Ireland’s best with success he did compete
As the wild mountain hare is quite as fleet
The first of the great cross country runners of Millstreet
Old memories remain as a source of joy
By old timers i heard many stories of him as a boy
As children they remembered Harry Coher in his prime
He was indeed a legend of his time [read more …] “Harry Coher”

Millstreet Town Park received €7,500 from the Cork County Council Community Fund, towards their new outdoor fitness equipment. The note below is from Cllr John Paul O’Shea:
Over €75,000 was allocated to communities across the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Area this week as part of Cork County Council’s Community Fund. The fund was established to support community and voluntary groups who wish to undertake capital development projects in their respective villages and towns.
Welcoming the allocations, Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea (Ind) said “The commitment of Cork County Council to allocate monies to these deserving projects is indeed a very welcome announcement for community groups within the Kanturk and Mallow areas. This funding will undoubtedly benefit the many community and voluntary organisations who have worked extremely hard in recent months planning for such developments in their respective communities and I look forward to seeing the fruits of their labour becoming a reality during the coming months”. I only knew Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe as a very old man
He was then in the twilight of his long life span
The physical wear of time on him did show
With a cane’s assistance he was walking slow
Ireland’s best two mile hurdler when in his life’s prime
Though this is going back many decades in time
Few in Ireland could match it with him on his day
The best of Mushera Valley of him one can say [read more …] “Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe”
Hollymount NS was delighted to take part in this year’s Fís Film project. What is the FÍS Film Project? FÍS is a successful film project currently thriving in primary schools across Ireland. The initiative encourages children to explore the medium of film in the primary classroom developing essential skills in moving-image literacy, communication, teamwork, visual arts and even numeracy … oh yes, and it’s also lots of fun! (http://www.fisfilmproject.ie/ 5th Nov 2014).
The Junior Room developed and created a film entitled ‘The Fairytale of Hollymount NS’, based on a tale about Snow White who decided to send her dwarfs and the three little pigs to see the ‘best school in Ireland!’ Every child in the class took part in the piece. The final project was submitted to Tralee Education Centre. The film was screened in Siamsa Tíre as part of Kerry Film Festival and Hollymount NS was presented with a plaque in recognition of the project.
