Church Local Television Reception Now Restored

We thank Parish Secretary, Sharon Lane for letting us know that the important Church Local Television Reception is now restored following the recent loss of signal for about a fortnight.   While most people now receive transmission of Millstreet Church Services by means of the internet online livestreaming system available on phone, laptop, iPad and computer – quite a number of people lucky enough to be able to receive the Local Television signal prefer to view Church Services by this method which was initially set up by the Presentation Sisters and through the expertise of Johnny Hickey and his dedicated Team.  When first established it was quite rare for a Church to have access to not only an audio reception but also television transmission which was capable of being received not only within the town of Millstreet but also quite a distance into the town’s hinterland.   Long may both transmissions (Local Television and Online Streaming) continue to provide such a hugely appreciated all-important service for everyone.  (S.R.)

Canon John Fitzgerald, P.P. celebrating Saturday Vigil Mass at St. Patrick’s Church on 27th Feb. 2021 – during the then current COVID-19 Lockdown era.   It was then that transmission of Church Services were especially important.  Note the long aerial at the rear of the Church for the broadcast of the Church’s Local Television Service.

Query from Castletownbere Regarding Millstreet Connection

We recently received the following query from Castletownbere:  In bygone days the late Ben Casey was an R.I.C. Officer in Millstreet.  When his first wife passed to her Eternal Reward, Ben later remarried.   It is the decendents of Ben who have Millstreet connections are being asked to make contact.   Some 25 years ago on a visit to Castletownbere a relative of Ben who is now deceased presented his accordion  to the Millstreet related visitors (who most likely enjoy music).   For more details on this please contact millstreetmuseum @gmail.com or make contact by phone, WhatsApp or text (086 – 825 0074).   We shall then explain in greater detail why we received this query.  (S.R.)

Seeking Official 1948 Programme of Millstreet v. St. Vincents Football Match

Dan from Macroom who is a true enthusiast regarding the collection of Official Match Programmes over the many years is seeking one which is not in his present collection.   It’s the famous Cork Co. Football Final Match of 1948 Millstreet v. St. Vincents.  If anyone happens to have this Programme, Dan would be delighted to receive a copy or if it was shared online in digital format this would also be appreciated.   Such an online sharing could be emailed to:  millstreetmuseum @gmail.com or images could also be shared to WhatsApp (086 825 oo74) and I shall then share it with Dan and with Pádraig O’Driscoll who is enquiring on behalf of Dan.  (S.R.)
