Great Support for Petition lodged to Objection of Proposed Windfarm in Mushera

Yesterday an objection was lodged with Cork County Council to the continued use of an 80 Mtr. Meteorological Mast on Mushera Mountain. This of course is paving the way for a wind farm on Mushera. There were over 200 Signatures attached to the Objection……yes, that is correct…..OVER 200 SIGNATURES. What is even more gratifying is that the Communities from Ballinagree, Aubane, Kilcorney, Millstreet and the Surrounding Area plus further afield came together to achieve this.

Many Thanks to Everyone for the great showing of Support.

Those that worked so hard under difficult circumstances are to be congratulated on their achievement. Keep up the good work.

Photo: Christmas Day 2002 on top of Mushera. This year’s Annual Christmas Morning Climb of Mushera takes place on Christmas Day Morning Sunday 25 December at 10.30 am.This year the proceeds go to Reach Out Cancer Support Group.

People from Aubane and other parts of Millstreet Parish on the morning of Christmas Day
Climb to the summit of Mushera Mountain quite a daunting task one has to say
For those who sponsor them for their favorite charity for this credit in heaps they are due
To climb Mushera in the depths of Winter to a cause one would have to be true

On Christmas morning no matter what the weather they scale the heights of Mushera hill
It may be frosty, raining or snowing or the gale force winds blowing a cold chill
The Mushera Christmas morning climbers some of them years ago were young
For their courage they are well worth admiring and their praises deserve to be sung

Last Snow of the Winter ?

A week ago there was a sudden and unexpected heavy snowfall which blanketed the area, especially Mushera which got a good deep cover. While it’s lovely to look at, hopefully it will be the last one of the year, and that the weather will pick up, after what has been an awful winter. (With thanks to Paul/Noreen O’Connor who took the 30+ photos below at dawn last Sunday in the Mushera / Knocknakilla area).

Of My Time On Mushera

The memories with me are all that does remain
I will never fell pine trees by Mushera again
In all sorts of weather wind, sun, frost and rain
With brown rain water flowing in every drain

Across the high country the cold winds did blow
And old Mushera was often in his hat of snow
Late Winter in Mushera can be a cold and wet time of year
The wind soughing in the pine trees in fancy i hear
