Castlemagner Players Present ‘Mother Knows Best’

This year Castlemagner Players are staging “Mother Knows Best” by Jimmy Keary. This 3 act play centres around Nick Cassidy who, while doing a painting job in the McDermott’s house, renews a friendship with their youngest daughter Suzy. The two begin dating, much to the disapproval of Suzy’s mother, Tess, who is hoping to make a match for her daughter with stuffy financial consultant, Adrian Bird. Tess resolves to break up the young couple by whatever means she can. However, such is Tess’ preoccupation with her daughter’s love-life, she fails to notice that her own husband, Harry is falling under the spell of her man-hungry golfing partner, Dulcie Cotter. Matters come to a head when Nick’s workmate, Joe Galligan breaks into McDermott’s, looking for money to pay off his gambling debts. During the theft, Tess’s plotting is exposed and Harry comes to a fateful decision.
The play is again directed by Neil Moylan and the final performances will be staged in Castlemagner Community Centre on Friday 29th, Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December at 8pm nightly, admission €10.

We thank Kathleen Moylan for this notice and we wish every success.  (S.R.)

Castlemagner Christmas Diary 2018

We thank Kathleen Moylan of Castlemagner for the following very comprehensive Castlemagner Christmas Diary 2018.  (S.R.)

Maggie Polpin is a widowed mother of four living in rural Ireland, now sole owner of the Polpin family shop and farm since the death of her husband.
She is a complex figure, far from the clichés of Irish femininity which
preceded her. This is a hard-bitten, uncompromising woman who puts her
personal security above all other concerns. She rejects the place which
cultural precedent has laid out for her and chooses to drive all of her
children away rather than nurture them like a mother can by trying to force them to do things that will benefit Maggie.

This production is a Castlemagner Sinsir Club (Senior Citizens) fundraiser
and your support would be greatly appreciated. It promises to be a great
night of entertainment and will start at 8pm each night. Tickets are
available at the door for €10.00.

The Annual Cookery Demonstration with Hazel Bourke, Assolas, will be held next Wednesday night December 5th in Castlemagner Community Centre at 8pm.
Mulled wine and Mince Pies will be served on arrival.

Tickets for this event are €10.00 and are available at door on the night. [read more …] “Castlemagner Christmas Diary 2018”
