Important Meeting – Millstreet Comhaltas Branch

Important Meeting – Wednesday 23rd November

– Millstreet Parish Centre – 8pm

The AGM of Millstreet Comhaltas Branch was held on 17th November. As the only people in attendance were the outgoing committee, it was impossible to elect new officers to enable the branch to continue.

Pre-lockdowns, the Comhaltas branch was a thriving organisation and its activities received positive feedback from participants, parents and the Millstreet community in general. It is a valuable resource for those interested in trying out a musical instrument, progressing their skills or learning to sing and dance.

Children and young people can grow in self-confidence and gain important social skills through participating in these cultural activities. And it’s not just the children who benefit – there is a lot of fun in being part of a
community of music-makers and dancers!

The outgoing committee has served for the last number of years – but are unable to continue in their roles for various reasons. As well, organisations need change and it is time for new faces and fresh ideas. If the
organisation breaks down, classes will not be able to continue and those interested in entering Fleadh competitions will not have a local club to represent. Millstreet’s legendary Féile Cheoil may also be lost.
It would be very regrettable to lose such a valuable community resource due to a lack of volunteers. We would encourage parents of the children who are availing of the current classes – or indeed any members
of the community with an interest in music, song and dance to come along. The retired committee are more than willing to support any incoming volunteers.

To this end, a meeting to discuss the future of the branch will take place on Wednesday 23rd November in Millstreet Parish Centre at 8pm. We would stress that this is not an AGM where people will feel under
pressure to accept a role – it will be an opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for what is involved.

We would love to see you there.
