Millstreet Astro Turf Pitch to Reopen on Monday 13th July 2020

While many people may feel that once the very impressive Astro Turf was put in place a few short years ago it would not need much maintenance.   But when recently speaking with Mary Collins of Millstreet Community Council (MCC) with special responsibility for the operation of the Astro Turf she indicated that nothing is maintenance-free and Mary shared the following important points:  1.  The Pitch has to be decompacted on a regular basis with some 8 tons of rubber recently spead to refresh the spring on the Pitch which over time can become flat and could lose its very significant spring.   2.  It has to be brushed twice a year to maintain the springy feel of the Pitch. 

Following the easing of C0VID-19 Restrictions the newly refreshed Astro Turf Pitch will reopen this coming Monday evening, 13th July 2020.   Presently, it’s Monday to Friday only.   Below we share images of the very recent renewal work in progress with the Pitch now looking superb.  Sincere thanks to Mary Collins for sharing such vital information and special thanks also to Margaret Bourke of MCC for alerting me to the work in progress which we recorded as illustrated below. Official Opening of Millstreet’s Astro Turf Centre on Friday, 29th November

The Official Opening of Millstreet’s Astro Turf Centre by  Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, will take place on Friday, 29th November 2013 at 1.00 p.m..   Also present for the very significant occasion will be Maura Walsh of IRD Duhallow.   We thank Cllr. Millstreet B.N.S. Delighted with Splendid New Astro Turf Amenity

Pictured with Principal, Frank O'Connor (on left back) and Coach, Michael McCarthy - here we view some of the enthusiastic pupils of Scoil Mhuire, Millstreet B.N.S. playing on the ultra-modern Astro Turf Pitch which is situated near their National School. Although it began to rain as we took our pictures today (24th Oct. 2013) it is clearly evident how very thrilled the young Students are with this marvellous new sporting amenity. Millstreet Celtic Soccer Club First to Play on New Astro Turf Facility

Millstreet Celtic Soccer Club had the historic honour of being the first Club to play under the flood lights of the magnificent new Astro Turf Facility at Millstreet Town Park. It was Cllr. Noel Buckley and Mairéad Daly who officially turned on the lights for the first time while further member of the Astro Turf Committee attended on Thursday, 17th October 2013. The “3 Js” First to Play on Magnificent New Millstreet Astroturf!

The "3 Js" - John D.(Buckley), Jerry (Lehane) and Jeremiah (Keating) had the unique privilege on Friday evening of being to first to play ball on the absolutely magnificent new Astroturf pitch....and they promised to wear the correct shoes for the superb surface on the next occasion they will play there! Cllr. Noel Buckley and Friends then joined the players to express their delight at the marvellous new sporting facility which has become a reality in Millstreet. Click on the images to enlarge. Work in Progress on Astro Turf Project Reported at Tonight’s Meeting
