GAA News for the locality
As Millstreet Under-17 Hurling Champions were recently celebrated at a special function in Millstreet on Thursday, 16th March 2023 recalling their Superb Oct. 2022 Victory let us now look back into our Pictorial Archives and remember not only the Victory Celebrations in Oct. 2022 at The Square, Millstreet but also the Team’s uplifting visits to various local settings during that week sharing the Cups and being Ambassadors of True Inspiration. I was privileged to have accompanied the Team and their Coaches on that day to record the happy meetings. Here is a very brief selection of the many images recorded on that day. The hugely successful Duarigle Gaels & Millstreet Juvenile GAA Victory Social was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Saturday, 4th March where special Sports Stars, Conor O’Callaghan and Darragh Cashman presented the talented Under 14 and Under 17 Players with their prestigious medals. Further Guests included two representatives from Cork GAA who addressed the large gathering. Great credit is due to the Organising Team ensuring a wonderful Victory Social where the Management and Staff of the Wallis Arms Hotel prepared a superbly colourful setting, provided a truly splendid meal and arranged a marvellous Disco with music supplied by Ronan O’Leary. Two most impressive Hampers were won at the event. Here we share our first of two selection of images from the outstanding occasion. Tap on the 35 pictures to enlarge. (S.R.) Being in this draw puts you in with a chance of winning thousands of euros in prize money each month. The first draw takes place in March and will draw for January and February too. All funds from tickets sold after we meet our quota are kept by the club to put toward its development. (Which we are very close to!!!)

On Wednesday, 15th Feb. 2023 at 4pm a Coach left Millstreet for Waterford in support of Darragh Cashman who is a member of the UL (University of Limerick) Team which had reached the Final against UCC in the prestigious 24th Sigerson Cup Match at the WIT Sports Campus. Among the enthusiastic group who travelled to Waterford were Darragh’s parents and family. Weather conditions were hugely challenging as witnessed in the TG4 Live Television coverage and as described in newspapers such as “The Irish Times” which mentioned the driving rain and howling wind and extra time where Darragh played a pivotal role as described: “A topsy-turvy encounter swung back in UCC’s favour as they regained the lead late on before Darragh Cashman’s 65th-minute equaliser for UL which forced extra-time, 0-15 to 1-12. Cashman wore number 35 on his back and thwarted UCC’s number 35, Michael O’Gara, who suspected he may have won it for the Cork side a couple of minutes earlier.” See full “Irish Times” Report HERE.
We thank Gillian O’Sullivan-Linehan for very kindly making available the following superb images which truly illustrate how the enthusiastic Supporters braved the challenging weather conditions to witness Darragh’s magnificent game. Although UCC were victorious with a three point margin in the end, Darragh and his Team Members must take a huge bow for such a remarkable performance and for almost winning the Sigerson Cup. Dromtariffe GAA & Historical Book Launch.
All roads will lead to Dromtariffe Community Hall on Sunday December 4th, when Dromtariffe GAA will launch it’s latest club history. Written by Dan Joe O’Keeffe and titled “In Praises of Dromtariffe”, the book describes the club’s long and illustrious story from its foundation in 1895 to 2020. It is not simply just the adult-club’s story, but also that of the under-age, ladies and Scór, as well as other sections of interest. The book will be launched by John Tarrant, well known sports reporter and local correspondent. Here is an opportunity for Dromtariffe people, young and old, from near and far to meet, great and reminisce. There will be music and song, along with light refreshments for all. It is hoped that the book will also be of interest to those outside the Parish, as it relates many epic and well fought clashes between Dromtariffe and its various Duhallow opponents.
