Buildings of County Cork: A Seminar by Frank Keohane on Corks’ Built Heritage
IRD Duhallow will host a seminar on July 9th 2015 at 7.30 p.m in the James O’ Keeffe Institute, Newmarket, Co. Cork. A Chartered Surveyor and Architectural Historian, Frank been working through the Buildings of Ireland Charitable Trust in the production of this survey which will be published by the Yale University Press in 2015 as part of one of the *Pevsner Buildings of Ireland Series. This seminar will address the development of structural heritage in Co. Cork and talk through his survey while giving an overview of the history of architectural heritage in the city and county. Previous projects which Frank Keohane has been involved have been the conservation of Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin, St. Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny and Johnstown Castle in Wexford. IRD Duhallow, are advocates of built heritage and conservation and look forward to welcoming Frank Keohane for what should be a fascinating insight into the heritage of our county. *Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, (1902 – 83), was one of the greatest writers in the 20th century on the subject of built heritage and associated architecture. Born in Germany, Pevsner later moved to London where he became Professor of History of Art at Birbeck University (University of London), Professor of Fine Art (at Cambridge) and a Gold Medalist at the Royal Institute of British Architects.
