Remembering Dave Badrick of West Yorkshire

We extend our sincere sympathy to Joanie (Hannah) Badrick (née Lehane) formerly of Minor Row, Millstreet on the sad departure of her beloved husband, Dave.   Heartfelt sympathy also to Joanie’s daughters and extended Family.  Joanie and Dave with their Family lived in the Isle of Man for many years and later at Todmorden in West Yorkshire, England.   Dave – always a True Gentleman – greatly endeared himself to so many in the Millstreet area and beyond when he and Joanie with their Family visited Millstreet on many occasions over the years.   We recall his wonderful wit, humour and superbly happy disposition.  It is clear that Dave enriched the lives of All.  God rest his gentle Soul.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.  (We thank Joanie’s brother – Jerry Lehane of Ballydaly – for sharing the news and photograph….S.R.)

“Walk for Water” by Millstreet Community School This Friday Afternoon

Millstreet Community School are holding a Water Action Day on Friday 3rd March as part of their Green Schools Programme. MCS students will take part in a “Walk for Water” through the grounds of Drishane and back to the school on Friday afternoon to highlight the importance of Water – a resource which we all too often take for granted.

Fundraising Comedy Presentation at Clondrohid Community Hall on 3rd March

Please support our fundraiser on 3rd March, a comedy by Tommy Marren, played by The Ahakeera Drama Group, in Clondrohid Community Hall.

Set in 1968 in rural Ireland, it’s the eve of the 40th wedding anniversary of Maggie and Mattie Conway who haven’t spoke a single word to each other in 10 years. Disaster strikes when the local parish priest Father O’Toole decides to surprise them by renewing their marriage vows. All hell breaks loose as a rollercoaster ride follows. (We thank Peter Lane for the Notice.)

Enthusiastically Supporting Darragh in the Final

On Wednesday, 15th Feb. 2023 at 4pm a Coach left Millstreet for Waterford in support of Darragh Cashman who is a member of the UL (University of Limerick) Team which had reached the Final against UCC in the prestigious 24th Sigerson Cup Match at the WIT Sports Campus.   Among the enthusiastic group who travelled to Waterford were Darragh’s parents and family.   Weather conditions were hugely challenging as witnessed in the TG4 Live Television coverage and as described in newspapers such as “The Irish Times” which mentioned the driving rain and howling wind and extra time where Darragh played a pivotal role as described: “A topsy-turvy encounter swung back in UCC’s favour as they regained the lead late on before Darragh Cashman’s 65th-minute equaliser for UL which forced extra-time, 0-15 to 1-12.  Cashman wore number 35 on his back and thwarted UCC’s number 35, Michael O’Gara, who suspected he may have won it for the Cork side a couple of minutes earlier.”  See full “Irish Times” Report HERE.

We thank Gillian O’Sullivan-Linehan for very kindly making available the following superb images which truly illustrate how the enthusiastic Supporters braved the challenging weather conditions to witness Darragh’s magnificent game.   Although UCC were victorious with a three point margin in the end, Darragh and his Team Members must take a huge bow for such a remarkable performance and for almost winning the Sigerson Cup.   Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)
