Magical Atmosphere at Millstreet’s Christmas Lights Launch 2022

It truly was a Sunday evening to remember on 4th December 2022 when a wonderful programme of festive events got underway following the official turning on of the superbly colourful Christmas Lights at The Square, Millstreet.   Little did I imagine that as MC Supreme, Noel Buckley introduced Steve Collins and his Son to turn on the Lights in 2021 that this year I would be accorded such a magnificent privilege.   Following the switching on of the Lights this year’s wonderfully Festive MC, Liam Flynn, introduced the Parade which included Millstreet Pipe Band, the Christmas Millstreet Vintage Club, Santa and superb singer, Ger O’Hanlon.  At a later point the wonderfully dedicated Millstreet Christmas Lights Committee will upload a full report on the great success of the overall event blessed with kind weather and a very impressive attendance.   Creating this spectacular Christmas magic throughout the town is quite costly and the Committee is most grateful for the support already received but would like to give the opportunity to everyone who may wish to contribute towards the special fundraising which greatly helps to defray the significant costs.   To access the link just click on the following: https://www.idonate.ie/cause/MillstreetChristmasLights Here we share four images of the event kindly shared by Photographer supreme, Neil O’Connor presently at home in West End on a visit from the USA.  We shall later feature further selections of images plus links to excellent videos by Tom Corbett and Fr. James McSweeney.  Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Receiving a wonderful Garda Escort while photographing Millstreet Pipe Band.
The magnificent singing of Ger O’Hanlon delighted the very large attendance at the festive event.

We  extend sincere thanks to the many people from home and abroad who have expressed their delight on watching Episode One of the excellent TG4 Documentary which was first broadcast on Wednesday, 9th Nov. at 9.30pm.  This first Episode presented by Diarmuid Ó Drisceoil (very often from his canoe while travelling the course of the River Blackwater) begins at its source near Ballydesmond where he meets with Pádraig Ó Súilleabháin, moves along to Ballydesmond where John Walsh sings and hears great Sliabh Luachra music in Kiskeam, meets with Journalist Donal Hickey in Knocknagree and with Con Houlihan at Duarigle Castle.  Then proceeding to the Boeing at Dooneen before travelling to Millstreet.  Our 27 still images from the wonderful Documentary illustrate the remainder of the journey to the end of Episode One.   The Documentary is being repeated tonight (Sunday, 13th Nov. 2022) at 11.00pm on TG4.  One may also access Episode One on this link and if you wish to skip to the section from Duarigle Castle to the end of the Episode just skip along the timeline to 25 minutes.   Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)
