From Jane: I am so impressed with Millstreet Country Park.. Today is my first day back since it was reopened .. walking in our beautiful sunshine.. Spectacular.. Quiet something so very special, spiritual even.
Whilst walking I was greeted by the beautiful statues of famous Irish people. This is an addition to park.. Water streams gently flowing, the sounds heavenly.
Then whilst walking towards the visitors centre the sound of music was gently playing in the music garden.
I was told to relax in the stunning area where I was to have my Americano and scone, it was like being on holiday.
We are so lucky to have this beauty here.. here are a few pictures which do not give justice

The Comeback Kid namely Kerry Football Legend Paul Galvin made a Surprise Appearance at some Local Parades for the St Patricks Day Celebrations,he started out with an appearance at The Carriganima Parade last Sunday followed by appearances at The Parades in Ballinagree and Millatreet on St Patricks Day itself, when asked why he didn`t go to Parades in Killarney, Rathmore etc in his Native Kerry Galvin replied he had been there and done that and instead he choose to come to some of our Local Parades instead to warn the Cork People that he was back big time and that he meant Buissness especially when he would be lining out against the Rebel County of Cork, for his trouble Galvin and his hardworking Backroom Team came away with second overall best Float in the Millstreet Parade and Paul said he was delighted with The Result and that the winning had started already.

A light cloud cover that moved in overnight blocked most from seeing the partial solar eclipse in Millstreet this morning. While most of us saw nothing other than it geting a little dark, the photo below taken by Jordan at Drishane View shows that it did at least make a brief appearance. St.Patrick’s Day is always very busy for Millstreet Pipe Band. On Tuesday they started early at Ballydaly mass, followed by Millstreet mass at 11:30, followed by the Killarney Parade at 2pm, and finally back to the Millstreet Parade at 5pm.
Now our Pipe Band always play during St.Patrick’s Day mass in St.Patrick’s Church Millstreet, so when it was mentioned the week before that they would be played again this year, I was happy because it’s always nice, but didn’t take extra special notice of it.
But … what they played as the reflection after communion turned out to be something unexpectedly special. It started with a number of pipers playing from the altar, but then the church organ started to play at the opposite end of the church, and as the musicians played, for a few precious minutes as the low bass vibrations of the organ and the pipers passed through us, everyone was enthralled by beauty and emotion of the moment, as the hairs stood on the back of our necks … and it was of course followed by a rapturous applause. Truly, a moment not to be forgotten. [read more …] “Something Special”

On St. Patrick’s Day, I send along a pic of my great-grandfather, Dr. Michael W. O’Keefe, 1852-1926, born in Millstreet, son of Daniel & Catherine O’Keefe, so it is said, and sent to the US about 1860 to be educated by his older brother Rev. Dennis Aloysius O’Keefe (1840-1868), a priest who sent the boy Michael to a Catholic school (St. Charles) in Maryland.
Dennis had parishes in Uxbridge, Mass., and then Clinton, Mass., and died while raising funds to build a church. His parishioners built a huge monument to him in the graveyard (instead of a church?).
CHRIS EUBANK vs STEVE COLLINS I: Steve Collins defeated the previously unbeaten long-reigning champion Chris Eubank in Green Glens, Millstreet, on 18th March 1995 to win the WBO super-middleweight title.
