On this the first anniversary of Tony’s passing we his family and relatives wish to acknowledge and thank most sincerely all those who helped and supported us during this difficult time.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all those who attended Dad’s funeral, sent mass cards, flowers, posted condolences on RIP, travelled long distance and those who gathered to bid farewell to Dad.

Finally, we would like to thank all those involved in Tony’s funeral service, our wonderful friends and neighbours who supported us during the funeral and the sad days which followed.

We would especially like to thank Denis and Anthony Casey Funeral Directors for their kindness and professionalism. Canon John Fitzgerald for the beautiful service and all those who participated in making Dad’s funeral service so special for us.

As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our appreciation.

They all replied and expressed their sincere gratitude and deepest appreciation for this financial boost. They paid tribute to the generosity of the Association and their many supporters who support the various fundraising projects. Due to Government cut backs in funding, their needs are greater more than ever and voluntary fundraising is hugely important to enable these centres to achieve high standards and services to enhance the lives of people with an intellectual disability.

We had fantastic support with 87 cards being issued, making it a very busy 10 nights for Healthy Body Wealthy Mind with Marie O’ Sullivan who co-ordinated #WeighIn and spoke to each participant individually and discussed a suitable weight loss over the ten weeks. Hannah O’Connor expertly guided an exercise to music class. Their contribution to the success of the Weigh-in is immense.
We are fortunate to have so many professionals who volunteer their services to the cause and we are indebted to the many people who give so generously their time, – Healthy Body Wealthy Mind with Marie O’ Sullivan, our wonderful participants, sponsors and all who contributed in any way to the success of this annual event, also to the Cullen Community Centre, Photographers, Seán Radley, John Tarrant, Phil O’Sullivan, The Corkman, Eily Buckley, C103 Cork.
The occasion is always a very pleasant and sociable one and is invariably enjoyed by everybody. Incidentally the first ever #weighin was held on Jan. 20th 1986 and in that period of time thousands of Euros have been raised through the generous sponsorship of our loyal and dedicated participants. At a time when there is so much media coverage relating to how charitable donations have been used or misused, we are pleased to be able to assure our supporters and sponsors that every cent and Euro sponsored or donated goes directly in to our funds and is presented to reps of the various centres where local children are educated and cared for.
Our sincere thanks for your continued support.

Annual Christmas Mass and Party

The season of goodwill began in earnest in Cullen last Saturday Dec.3rd, when we hosted our 39thAnnual Christmas Mass and Party. It was disappointing that this successful and such an enjoyable afternoon had to be abandoned in 2020 and 2021 in the best interest of all during those unusual COVID 19 times. However it was great to be back again, this party is the highlight of our year’s activities and has been part of our lives here in Cullen over 40 years. Weather conditions were excellent and we were thrilled with the turn out from afar as Tarbert, Mallow and Kanturk to, Newmarket, Millstreet, Gneeveguila, Knocknagree and Cullen. A large number of our special friends with their families, friends or carers attended.   Many friendships are renewed and new ones formed at this annual get together. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

Incidentally Sat. Dec. 3rd, was a very special day – the United Nations sanctioned day, celebrated internationally to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities, focusing on social inclusion, and is in its 30th year.

Mass was celebrated by Canon John Fitzgerald, and the local Choir added to the celebration with appropriate Christmas hymns and carols. Guests were then treated to festive refreshments and wonderful disco music kick-started the season of goodwill for all present, whose energy and enthusiasm could put many to shame. Our wonderful DJ, Sean Collins contributed in no small way to the success of the party. The excitement continued as each guest then received a Christmas gift. We were delighted to have a visit from the Kanturk/Millstreet branch of the Red Cross offering hand massage and nail painting to all guests, and this was very much enjoyed and appreciated.

Great credit is due to the organising committee, the hall committee, and the many wonderful helpers who did trogan work behind the scenes to ensure that everything was in order for the evening.

Many thanks to all who came and supported the afternoon to make it such a success.

Cullen and District S.N.A. wish all their special friends, supporters and sponsors all the Joys and Blessings of Christmas with the best of health and happiness in the New Year
