Michael Dineen’s Wonderful 90th Birthday Celebration on Sunday

We thank Photographer supreme, Geraldine Dennehy for these superb images of the grand celebration of Michael Dineen of Pound Hill (Hegarty Street), Millstreet on his 90th Birthday which took place on Sunday, 8th February 2015 in the Wallis Arms Hotel with his wife Margaret, his children, grandchildren, sister, brother, neighbours and close friends.  And not only that but Micheal & Margaret had celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on January 29th. 2015!   We extend our heartfelt congratulations to both Margaret and Michael on such marvellous occasions and we are delighted to share such joy worldwide thanks to Geraldine’s magnificent pictures – Seán Radley on behalf of the Millstreet Website Team. Superb Gathering for MCS Table Quiz Tonight at Wallis Arms Hotel

A truly enthusiastic atmosphere at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight as a very impressive attendance participated in the Table Quiz in aid of Millstreet Community School's annual Lourdes Project for Students who assist in the IHCPT Irish Pilgrimage Trust. A wonderful Family Celebration marking exactly 50 years to the very day (Friday, 23rd Jan. 2015) when Dr. Pat Casey saw his first patient in the Wallis Arms Hotel where he resided when he first arrived in Millstreet. Addressing his wife, Nora and Family, Dr. Pat expressed heartfelt thanks to his Family and his Work Colleagues for much appreciated support in making the past 50 years so fruitful and uplifting. Superb Tributes at Retirement of Sgt. Paul O’Donovan

Pictured with his wife, Anne and extended Family, Sgt. Paul O'Donovan was accorded much richly deserved praise at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Thursday, 2th Jan. 2015 at his Retirement Party. Sgt. Paul's superbly dedicated career in the Gardaí began in 1982 and ends today on 10th Jan. 2015. Here we share a selection of images recording some of the many presentations made to Sgt. Paul. Work Colleagues join Sgt. Paul and Anne for a group photo.  We are delighted to learn that Sgt. Paul, Anne and Family will continue to reside in Millstreet.  Paul is a native of Killarney and has served in the Gardaí in Dublin, Cork, Coachford, Newmarket and of course Millstreet.   We wish Sgt. Paul a very Happy Retirement and we extend best wishes to Anne (a native of Kenmare) and Family also.

A very pleasant meal was enjoyed by the members of the SAOI Network Videography Group at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Thursday, 6th Nov. 2014. The coordinators of the uplifting occasion - Mary O' Sullivan and Paddy Buckley - expressed delight at not only the very fine meal but with the many sharings of interesting and humorous stories related afterwards when Jack Roche shared his thoughts regarding the many benefits which resulted following the particpation of the Group in the two-year videography and film course organised by IRD Duhallow. The Date is Saturday 25 October for this years Fancy Dress, so it’s time to dust off those costumes for the best night of the year!

1960s Wallis Arms Booklet - front pageMany thanks to Kevin McDermott who sent us a photo of the front page of a historic Wallis Arms Hotel booklet from the 1960s (click the photo for full size)

The hotel boasts that it can arrange Car Hire – Messages and Telegrams – Newspapers and Packed Lunches.

The Wallis Arms remained much the same until about ten years ago when the Sheehan family took over the ownership of the hotel.

A copy of the booklet is already in the archives of Millstreet Museum.

A most impressive cheque of €3,500.00 was officially presented to members of Reach Out Cancer Support at a special function in the Wallis Arms Hotel on Sunday night. Those who spoke included Martina Sheehan for Aubane Social Club who organised the very successful Halloween Fancy Dress event. Billy Sheahan of the Wallis Arms also addressed the gathering - It was Billy and Ellen who kindly made the Wallis Arms available for the fundraising occasion. Michelle O'Keeffe and Mairéad Daly expressed sincere thanks on behalf of R.O.C.S.. Highlights of the event will feature on LTV2 during its new season. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)

Millstreet Community School Class Reunion of 1983-1988 This Evening

During the special Mass celebrated by Canon John Fitzgerald, P.P. in St. Patrick's Church this evening four deceased members of the original class of 1983 -1988 were remembered. Following the group photograph the many Friends proceeded to the Wallis Arms Hotel to meet with further members of the Reunion Group. Lots of great memories were recalled in advance of the meal and dance. We extend our best wishes to the Class of 1983-1988 who were joined by a number of Teachers to celebrate the special occasion.
