Women’s Little Christmas Ball

A small number of tickets still available for the Women’s Little Christmas Ball at the Wallis Arms this Saturday January 6th, for which proceeds go to Reach Out Cancer Support (ROCS) Millstreet. Doors Open at 7.15pm, mulled wine reception at 7.30pm, and food is served at 8.10pm. It going to be a great night!!

A.G.M. of Highly Regarded Millstreet Local Lotto at Wallis Arms Hotel

A very successful A.G.M. of Millstreet Local Lotto was held in the Wallis Arms Hotel on Saturday, 25th March 2017 at which the enormous benefits of the excellent local fund were outlined and sincere thanks extended to all who consistently supported such a praiseworthy local project which has been in place for over twenty years. Millstreet / Duarigle Gaels Juvenile GAA Victory Social at Wallis Arms – Part 1

Recently at the Wallis Arms Hotel on two separate nights Millstreet / Duarigle Gaels Juvenile GAA celebrated with a superb Victory Social – on the Friday night with the younger members and on the Saturday night with the more senior players.  Here we share images from the first occasion where Sportsman Supreme, Kevin Crowley was the Guest of Honour who presented the wonderfully successful players with their medals.  The Disco which followed the meal, presentation and speeches – with very popular D.J. Cheque Presentation to Marymount Hospice In Memory of Noreen Long

The presentation of a superb cheque of €3,861.00 in aid of Marymount Hospice, Cork and in memory of the late Noreen Long who went to her Eternal Reward in July 2016
The presentation of a superb cheque of €3,861.00 to the Friends of Marymount Hospice, Cork and in memory of the late Noreen Long who went to her Eternal Reward in July 2016 – took place in the Wallis Arms Hotel on Saturday, 26th Nov. 2016.  The impressive fundraising resulted from a Sky Dive (Sponsored Parachute Jump) by Marie (niece of the late Noreen) and Timothy (son of the late Noreen) which took place in Kilkenny.  Front row (from left):  Timothy Long, Cáit McCarthy representing Friends of Marymount Hospice, Marie Murphy.  Back row, from left:  Paula Long, Lisa Fleming (daughter), Christy Long (husband of the late Noreen), Geraldine (daughter),  Margaret Murphy.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Book Launch: Ready, Willing, Waiting. Keale, Millstreet, Mushera, Rathduane Irish Volunteers 1916

2016-03-09 Millstreet Monumet Commitee - Book Launch - Ready Willing Waiting - posterOn March 9th, Millstreet Monument Committee will host a talk entitled ‘Order, Counter-order, Disorder Easter 1916 in Cork’ delivered by Gerry White. Gerry is an author and military historian.  Along with Brendan O’Shea he has co-written ‘The Burning of Cork’ and ‘Baptised in Blood – The Formation of the Cork Brigade of Irish Volunteers ’. another book entitled ‘A Great Sacrifice: Cork Servicemen who died in the Great War’ was published following a detailed study conducted by both men which focused on Cork city and country in which they identified at least 3,784 people from the area who lost their lives in the Great War. He is an annual contributor to the ‘Holly Bough’ and also contributes to the Evening Echo and Cork Examiner. His talk will focus on The Cork Brigade and their mobilisation during Easter Week 1916.

On the same night (8pm March 9th 2016) The Committee will launch their publication written by Noreen Meaney entitled ‘Ready Willing Waiting: Keale, Millstreet, Mushera, Millstreet Irish Volunteers 1916.’ The book tells the story of the formation of the four Companies of Irish Volunteers who mobilised on Easter Sunday 23 April 1916, their activities in Millstreet while the Rising continued in [read more …] “Book Launch: Ready, Willing, Waiting. This Weekend’s Events at the Wallis Arms

This weekend sees two big nights at the Wallis Arms Hotel: on Friday night there’s a 70s Disco organised in conjunction with Trevor O’Connor who is running the Berlin Marathon, with all proceeds going to the Irish Heart Foundation. On Saturday evening, you can dance the night away as Crystal Swing will take to the stage, fresh from Dervla’s wedding last week (she’s not on honeymoon until November).
