Tony Extends Sincere Thanks for Such a Wonderfully Successful Cork 20 Motor Rally Held Recently in Millstreet

We thank Tony McCaul for sharing his excellent speech which he delivered at the Presentation Ceremony on Sunday, 6th October 2013 – the closing evening of the Cork 20 – at the Wallis Arms Hotel.  (S.R.)
Hello everyone and welcome to the Cork 20 International Rally 2013 Prize Giving in The Wallis Arms Hotel Millstreet.

I have a lot of people to thank so I’ll get straight on with it.

First of all I would like to thank the members of Millstreet Development Group who supported me when it first came to my attention that Munster Car Club were considering a move out of their traditional Cork City Base. Their support was instant and continuous throughout the process and they were Billy Sheahan of The Wallis Arms, Veronica Perdisatt, Patrick Coleman, Micheal Thornton, Liam Flynn and of course Nicola McMahon. I also roped in some of my friends with rallying backgrounds and their knowledge and support was immense and they were Alex Twomey, Daniel Lucey, Donie Lucey, Steve Collins and Danny Creedon.Thank you also to Millstreet Gaa Club who helped marshall in the Green Glens.

A big thank you to the people of Millstreet and the wider locality who embraced the event from the very outset. The welcome extended to the officials, competitors and spectators was fantastic. One comment I received earlier from one of the top drivers was “I have rallied in Ireland , the UK and Europe but I was never made more welcome in a town, village or city as I was in Millstreet this weekend”.

A special thank you to our own Billy Coleman who helped us to launch the event and helped us greatly with the press night and photo shoots.

Most importantly I wish to thank all the people who put ads in the program and a special thank you to our five stage sponsors, The Wallis Arms Hotel, Colemans Centra /Kia/ New holland, Collins Fuel & Tyre Centre, Tarrant’s Skoda Banteer, O Keeffe’s Oils Rathmore. Without you’re support the Cork 20 rally would not have happened in Millstreet. I hope the exposure your business gets from the event greatly benefits you in the future.

Speaking of our sponsors I would like to refer you to the rally program. This should now become your new phonebook whenever you need something. Everyone in the program has supported both Millstreet and the Cork 20 Rally so please support them in every way you can! So if your washing machine breaks down next week look in the program and see if there is a supplier in it because Harvey Norman doesn’t support either Millstreet or the Cork 20 Rally, the people in the program do.

I now turn my attention to Munster Car Clubs dynamic duo, Kevin O Riordan (Clerc of the Course) and Coleman Hegarty (Deputy CoC).Lads it was a pleasure working with ye over the past number of months. We provided ye with the venue and location and ye surrounded it with an absolutely fantastic rally. The layout and the quality of the stages was nothing short of epic.Ye did a brilliant job and great credit is due to ye. I’ve heard nothing but praise all weekend from competitors, spectators and the people of Millstreet.

Also a big thank you to Seanie Radley and Micheal Cashman of Millstreet.ie, Eily Buckley of C103 and John Tarrant of the Corkman for their continuous progress reports and promotion of the rally and of Millstreet. I would also like to thank Sgt. Paul O Donovan and his colleagues in the Millstreet Gardai.

Last but by no means least I would like to thank Thomas Duggan and The Duggan Family of The Green Glens Arena. They were a pleasure to deal with and they went out of their way to help us in every way they could.

That’s all from me and I hope I haven’t forgotten to thank anyone. If I have Thank you to anyone who helped in any way.
