A marvellous Dalmation Dog will be following the horse carriage. On Sunday we noted how similar in colouring were the very patient horse and the dog! Here we view some further images from the official launch. The fundraising is of course in aid of Cancer Research and all funds will be directed to the Cork Centre where such excellent research work is being carried out. Aghinagh Macra na Feirme will be lending very valuable support during the Drive which takes place from 9th to 19th July 2014. We recorded the launch event for LTV2 which will be broadcast soon and will give people an opportunity to hear the splendid addresses shared by such coordinators for Breakthrough Cancer Research as Orla Dolan, BSc MBS. Athletics: At the County Senior Cross Country Championships near Riverstick, Tony Kelleher finished 19th in a time of 37:35 (plus bronze in the team section), and Donal Coffey finished 22nd in a time of 37:49 [full results] (photo right –>).

News yesterday that the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet, has won the bid to host the 2014 European Pony Championships (for Jumping, Dressage and Eventing) from 16-20 of July. Two other venues were in the running: Dzonkow (Poland), and Wiener Neustadt (Austria). The decision was made at the 2013 FEI General Assembly on 4 November 2013.

The organisers of the Owners’ Pony and Young Riders Show are aiming to celebrate raising €250,000 for charity at the Green Glens, Millstreet this weekend. The venue has been home to the event for 14 of its 26 years and spokesman Keith Griffin said its popularity had not dimmed.
“Entries seem to be on target, and we are close to 3,000 again. The recession is hitting people now, but we are very happy with the response. Over the years, we have raised a total of €240,000 for charity. We made €10,000 last year and if we do the same this year, I will be very happy,” he said. [Read the full article on the Examiner]

Rallying: Paul and Charlie Drake drove in the Coffs Coast Rally in Australia this weekend (12th – 14th October). They rolled the car on day one (Friday) [photo], repaired he mess to get going for day two, eventually finishing in 12th in the National Class. [results (the Drakes are in the NSWRC section)]
Greyhounds:Ballydaly Lark (for Edward Murphy) came 5th in the first race at Curraheen Park on Thursday Oct 11th (525 Yds. Flat) in a time of 29.74. [results]
Cleanaway Podge (Con O’Connor) finished 4th in Race 7 – Lucey’s – The Good Food Shop 525 (Grade : A3) Flat 525 at Curraheen Park in a time of 29.77.[results]

Blessed with some truly excellent weather the scenes at Green Glens were so very colourful, cheerful, exciting and very, very busy. From Stable to Stable Magazine: Great Britain notched up an incredible 6th win this evening as Anna Edwards rode to victory in the €50,000 Millstreet International Grand Prix. Record crowds have been enjoying superb weather conditions and top-class International showjumping on the opening days of the 2012 Millstreet International Horse Show.
