Preparations run Smoothly

THE DARK clouds and deluges of rain over Duhallow had passed away and patches of blue sky were beginning to emerge above Clara Mountain as preparations went on for the Millstreet International Horse Show which has just started.

Now in its 33rd year, the show, established by local entrepreneur and equestrian enthusiast Noel C Duggan, remains a family and community affair with up to 100 locals joining with the Duggan family in getting the Green Glens arena ready for competition.

Noel C’s son, Thomas, takes time out from moving a giant flower box with a forklift to predict that … read the full article in today’s Irish Times [read more …] “Preparations run Smoothly”

Millstreet ready to fly International Flags again

http://millstreethorseshow.ie/en/wp-content/uploads/nivoslider4wp_files/11_s.jpegMillstreet Horse Show returns to the international stage next week after a 12-year hiatus, with its popularity as strong as ever.

Boasting a prizefund upwards of €200,000, nine international classes, three Rolex ranking contests and competitions in every grade imaginable, unmatched facilities, not to mention the famed Green Glens atmosphere, it is no surprise to hear that families are travelling from the four provinces, complemented by competitors from seven nations.

“We have 1,200 stables booked out and we are still short. It is close to uncontrollable,” said Noel C Duggan yesterday.

“We have riders from seven nations, if not eight, for example Britain, France, Italy, Canada and Denmark. This is the only three-star international show in Ireland and there will be more entries at this show than in any four-star show in Europe.” …. this is an extract from a much longer article in today’s Irish Examiner

Clara More wins at Cork Racecourse

https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQcjqc5mGnnpsvLh1V3IMoe_tRlSRH8agLS1LFvjjKCOuoATmz-Well done to Willie O’Leary whose horse Clara More landed The Mallow Print Handicap Hurdle tonight at Cork Racecourse,  attracting morning support to move from 33/1 to an SP of 12/1. The seven-year-old son of Luso, who had bottom weight in the handicap, travelled well and picked up the lead two out. He quickened away after the last under Adrian Heskin to win by two and three parts from Frankie Flowers who set off in pursuit coming to the last, but made no further headway at 8/1.

Local trainer Eoghan O’Grady has Clara More and he said: “Unfortunately the owner Willie O’Leary couldn’t make it tonight. He’s from Millstreet, Co Cork and his claim to fame is that in 1963 he recorded the highest personal score against Kerry in a 60 minute Munster final.

“Clara More may go to Killarney next Thursday for a similar handicap. He won a point-to-point in the spring and he jumps well so [read more …] “Clara More wins at Cork Racecourse”

Competition Authority finds in favour of Millstreet Horse Show

from MillstreetHorseShow.ie: The Competition Authority has recently finalised its investigation into alleged anti-competitive behaviour by Show Jumping Ireland (SJI). They have found in favour of the consumers right to free choice thus vindicating our position held firmly over the past three years.

Subject to two laid conditions being met by the host show, SJI members cannot be penalised in any way – to do so would be unlawful. Millstreet International Horse Show has no difficulty in satisfying these two conditions.

The Millstreet International Horse Show is on from Tuesday 7th to Sunday 12th of August 2012.

Francis Connors looking to do well at Millstreet

From today’s Examiner:  Francis Connors has been competing at Millstreet Horse Show for “about 35 years”, and is determined to add to his good memories of the Cork event this week. The Waterford rider is a 10-time national champion and accepted as one of the best exponents of the sport.

That, though, does not guarantee success and, while he mostly remembers the good times, he admits his aspirations have not always been fulfilled at Millstreet, which begins its five-day stint today… [Read the full article]

Interest in Horse Show even greater

Millstreet Horse Show 2011

From an article in the Irish Examiner:

Interest in this year’s Millstreet Horse Show is even greater than last year, according to Noel C Duggan.

“Entries are flying in and we have three girls on the phones. Also, we were the first to take entries on line and it has proved to be great for both the show and competitors.

“I can guarantee that this year’s show will be spectacular, with huge improvements in the lay-out of the place. Eight sand arenas will be in operation, all drained and refreshed, and we have undertaken landscaping. Along with the competitions that featured last year, we will be announcing new, exciting elements to [read more …] “Interest in Horse Show even greater”

Parade of Retiring Riders at Green Glens Equestrian Event

Good news for Millstreet Horse Show

There was good news for Millstreet Horse Show this week as Show Jumping Association of Ireland (SJI) members proposed and passed a motion to cancel all fines and suspensions arising from member who jumped at the horse show last August.

The SJI and Green Glens have been in a protracted dispute centering on the issue of insurance. This came to a head in August when the Corkman staged what he termed an ‘independent’ show, with many SJI members and officials defying the threat of sanction to participate. In turn, the SJI rescheduled its national championships to run opposite Millstreet, arguably the country’s most popular show, and the organisation is in … [read more …] “Good news for Millstreet Horse Show”
