Millstreet VHI GAA Cul Camp
From 11th – 15th July, Millstreet Juvenile Club hosted a very successful VHI GAA Cul Camp in the Town Park. 94 primary school children took part in the camp under the expert eye of qualified coaches Steven Mannix (Banteer), Kevin Hallissey (Eire Og), Leah Westwood (Ballincollig), Christopher Buckley (Mourneabbey) and Michael Murphy (Millstreet). These coaches were ably assisted by local minor, u21 and Junior players (Eric Hickey,Denny Twomey, Len Murphy, Alanna Barry, Cliona O’ Callaghan and Michael Vaughan) and the children thoroughly enjoyed their fun-packed week of G.A.A. activities. Cork Senior Footballer Paddy Kelly visited the camp and was more than happy to give advice, go through some drills with the participants as well as autograph the personal belongings of all the children. Along with the VHI Cul Camp kit which included a jersey, shorts, socks and gear bag, the children each received a medal at the end of the week to acknowledge the efforts they put into the learning of their new skills during the week. Millstreet Juvenile Club would like to thank all those who supported the camp and look forward to VHI CUL CAMP 2012!

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this lovely calm warm Tuesday morning.
The pleasant weather over the weekend gave people of all ages a welcome chance to enjoy the great out of doors. The annual vintage and old time threshing day in Cullen was an outstanding success. Their varied program ensured that there was something there for everyone.
So well done once again to the wonderful Special Needs Association.
In turn they want to thank all those who supported them and helped in any way with their latest fundraiser. The LTV crew were there to record it for your viewing when programs resume in the fall.
Large crowds strolled in the Country Park, while others took on some of our new loop walks.

Big Jerry Shea was in his prime when I was a young fellow
He was a wild one on his day though the years have made him mellow
In the pub with a few drinks in he could be very funny
And with the big fellow about the atmosphere was sunny.

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1073 from Millstreet.
Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this calm and cloudy Tuesday morning.
Fundraising reached an all-time high here at the weekend when no less than three events were held for the same worthy cause. The late Jerry O Leary fundraising efforts in aid of the Oncology Department of the Cork Universary Hospital opened on Saturday with a coffee morning at the home of his wife Teresa and her little boy in Rathcoole. Then on Saturday night a monster auction and raffle was held at the Clara Inn with items realising huge prices. This was followed on Sunday afternoon by a monster Vintage run which took off from Drishane Castle. All events only went to show the high esteem at which trucker, Jerry was held. A truly outstanding tribute in these recessional times.
I mentioned last week that the Forgotten Maggies would be screened on TG4 tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 20th at 9.30 and now I’m reminding you again. Please don’t miss this the Irish Premier of the story of the Laundry Girls and women who suffered so much in silence until their story was told to our own Stephen O Riordan, who Directed and produced the film.It got a standing ovation in New York, and excellent reviews from the Irish Papers as well as the Galway Festival 2009. On TG4 it will be transmitted in English. Starting to-morrow Wednesday night at 9.30.

Forgotten Maggies on TG4
The long awaited documentary on the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland (The Forgotten Maggies) is set to get its Irish premier on Wednesday 20th July 2011 TG4 @ 9:30PM. It has taken five years to get the documentary screened and I hope everybody in Millstreet can support the work Steven O’ Riordan and others have done to help these women. It is the only Irish made documentary on the subject matter and fear not, it’s completely in English. So if you are not an Irish speaker you don’t have to worry. The documentary is compelling, shocking, honest and extremely forthright in its testimonies. Let everyone know it’s on and for anyone interested the trailer is below.
