Bernard O’Donoghue added to the Irish Poetry Reading Archive
This week Cullen native Bernard O’Donoghue was added to the Irish Poetry Reading Archive, which is part of a project to create a central repository for poetry readings by Irish poets and writers, which tries to capture and preserve the rich and diverse landscape of poetry in Ireland. The collection captures the voice of the poet reading a selection of their work, and giving a very brief overview of the context and circumstances that influenced the writing of the poem. Below are nine videos of Bernards poems, and also at the end, a long video in which he talks about the beauty of the work of Seamus Heaney:

Eily’s Weekly Update – November 17th
Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to the News from Millstreet.
Last week a young man of 23 from New York completed the O Sullivan Beara Way from Beara to Brefni in 29 days. The weather was far from being kind to him, but all through his childhood he listened to his Dad who was of Irish decent, telling about this great Irish Chieftan who made the journey in 1604 and he was determined to do it too. And well done to him.
Talking of journeys, there is a new book at Wordsworth book shop in Millstreet, entited “Walking the Munster Blackwater”. It’s written by a Jim O Malley who did just that in 2010. Over 200 pages long, it gives an indepth account of his trek, warts and all. I liked the way he highlighted the history of places that he walked through and the people he met. At €20 it makes a lovely read and an ideal gift at Christmas.
The AGM of our Community Council will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight November 17th. All are welcome.
