O’CALLAGHAN (The Square, Millstreet): On October 15, 2015, peacefully, TEDDY, beloved husband of the late Marion (McCarthy). Sadly missed by his loving daughters Eileen Aherne and Gráinne Crowley, brother Con, sisters Margaret and Eileen, sons-in-law, John and Flor and grandchildren.
Reposing in St Patrick’s Church, Millstreet, on this Friday evening from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Requiem Mass tomorrow, Saturday, at 10.30am. Burial afterwards to St Mary’s Cemetery.

Official Opening of Renovated Museum This Evening at 7.00
Programme of the Historic Occasion on Wednesday, 14th October 2015 at 7pm
Assembly at 6.45pm to the sound of Pipe Music in preparation for the official unveiling of the Andrew Carnegie Centenary Plaque which will be performed by Nora Kelleher of Minor Row whose Uncle, Joe O’Connor was one of the main coordinators responsible for the establishment of the Carnegie Hall in Millstreet in 1912.
Official Opening of Millstreet Museum by Noel Buckley in the presence of Cllr John Paul O’Shea, Mayor of Cork County and other Dignitaries. Then follows the Blessing of the Museum Centre by Canon John Ftizgerald, P.P..
The Presentation by Mary Flaherty of the Medal of Patrick Murphy, late of Ballydaly found by his Grandson, Russell Murphy, in New Zealand.
We shall have brief addresses by the Cork County Mayor, by Noel Buckley, by Nora Kelleher and by Mary Flaherty.
Fr. Paddy O’Byrne will present the Child of Mary Cloak (and Confraternity Medal) belonging to the late Dola O’Byrne.
We focus on the truly magnificent 1840 frame for the 1927 Monument Plaque which has recently been very creatively made by Dan Duggan of West End.
Jerry Lehane will present his some of his many historic items which he had very kindly made available to the Museum over many years.
On our Wall of Light of “Millstreet Through History” special reference will be made to Denis Kiely who in the 1920s was among those who saved the Carnegie Hall from being put on fire. The Wall illustrates an historic photo of Denis and his Companions following the saving of the historic building.
Then will follow a number of Museum Presentations to various people who have greatly contributed to the bringing to reality the reopening of Millstreet Museum and Tourist Information Centre.
Everyone is most welcome to this very historic evening in Millstreet.
Millstreet Community School Soccer Team Success
Millstreet Community School’s senior boys soccer team got off to a winning start in the first of their group matches in the John Murphy Cup. They played SMI Newcastlewest away on 13th October and came away with a 4-3 win. It was a fantastic team performance against a very good side. The goal scorers were Colm O’Leary (2), Billy Cronin and Danny Buckley. The next fixture is at home against St. Patrick’s Castleisland on Friday 23rd October. We thank John Magee for the notice. Tadhg Curtin has made a video for a competition Kilcorney has entered. The competition is brought to us by Open Eir. The prize is €250,000 which is allocated to bringing in fibre optic broadband to the area. The weekly lotto draw was held at the MalPasso Bar on Sunday night October 11th.

All roads lead to the Bush Bar on this Friday night, October 16th. for the All-Ladies night out in aid of the Rylane Boxing Club. This function which was deferred from an earlier date, will be full of fun and games, music and refreshments.
Their young boxers Chloe Barrett, Megan Lehane, and Linda Desmond did the proud this year with their great wins at National level.
So please ladies row in behind them, their Club deserves your support, and have a great night out with the “girls”, into the bargain. The show kicks off at 8.
Annual Fancy Dress Fundraising Party
This years Annual Fancy Dress officially launched last Thursday by John F Kelleher Chairman with Noreen Mc Sweeney Acting Director of Nursing at Millstreet Hospital in the presence of the Nursing & caring staff.

O’SULLIVAN (Cloghoulamore, Millstreet and late of Ballinagree): On October 10, 2015, peacefully, at Mallow General Hospital, PETER, husband to Ellen (nee Lane) and father of Mary, Dan, Eileen (O’Shea), Michael, Jerry, Kathleen (Creedon), brother of the late Mary Kelleher. Deeply regretted by his family, daughters-in-law Margarett and Nicola, sons-in-law Con and Paudie, brother James, sister Joan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. Rest in Peace.
Reposing in Tarrant’s Funeral Home on this Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm, followed by removal to St Patrick’s Church, Millstreet. Requiem Mass on tomorrow Wednesday at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery.

Crime Prevention Information Seminar
Sergeant John Kelly Crime Prevention Officer will give a Crime Prevention Talk on Tuesday the 3rd of November at 7.30p.m. in the James O’ Keeffe Institute, Newmarket. This night will promote crime prevention and how to reduce the opportunities for criminals to commit crime in your home. Mr. Diarmuid Cronin, Community Alert Development Officer will also be available to explain details of the Community Alert Initiative. Registration is essential by contacting Mary Creedon on 029 60633. This seminar is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
Refresher FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Aid
IRD Duhallow is seeking to run two courses in Refresher Fetac Level 5 Occupational First Aid. There will be a maximum intake of 10 participants per course. It will be a requirement for participants to bring their FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Aid cert with them on the day. Please note you have up to 3 months from expiry date to revalidate. Places will be limited. Names are currently being taken and if you are interested in participating or to find out more information please contact Mary on 029 60633.

Death Notice: Julia O’Mahony (née Twohig) Ovens, and Millstreet, Cork
O’Mahony (Chapel Rd., Ovens and late of Millstreet) On October 7th 2015 peacefully in the presence of her loving family and in the tender care of the nurses and staff at Araglen House Nursing Home Boherbue Julia (nee Twohig) (former Sacristan Ovens Church) beloved wife of the late Jack and loving mother of the late Oliver. Sadly missed by her loving sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-greatgrandson, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. Rest in peace.
Rosary at her home this Wednesday evening (7th) at 9pm. Reposing Thursday (8th) from 7.30pm to 9pm in St John the Baptist Church Ovens followed by Rosary. Requiem Mass at 11am Friday (9th). Funeral afterwards to the adjoining cemetery.
Eily’s Report Extra
All going well, work will begin on the construction of the Bridge across the Blackwater at Dooneen on tomorrow Thursday October 8th.
When completed, this welcome development will be one of the last pieces in the gig-saw that makes up the historic Beara/Brefni Way. which dates back to 1604. Long years of negotiations have gone into bringing this development to fruition.
And all thanks goes to the land-owners who have given their lands free of charge so that the project could go ahead. On the South side the thanks goes to Michael and Marian O Sullivan and the North side, Francis and Eileen O Riordan. We wish the development every success.
James Cronin, Knocknakilla, who is a Transition year student at our Community School, will give a talk at all masses at the weekend on his trip to India, with the Hope Foundation in March 2016.
Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week
Millstreet Parent and Toddler Group held a Pajama Day in aid of Childline last Tuesday 6th Oct. With everyone in their pjs there was a notably relaxed atmosphere on the day. The children made a beautiful banner which can be seen hanging on the wall behind the group photo. They snacked on Cheerios and had an altogether fantastic morning! €110 was raised for Childline.
