Minus 12 degrees Celcius as seen on the car display last night at 1am. I’ve never known it to be so cold in Millstreet.

Eily Buckley
Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1044 from Millstreet.
Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold and snowy Tuesday morning of the shortest day of 2010.
Among so many other things our Lotto draw fell victim of the adverse weather on Sunday night. That coupled with the death of Dan Hinchion beloved Dad of Marie Twomey who along with her husband, Denis, are leading members of the Lotto committee . And on behalf of the committee I want to extend to them and their families, our sincere sympathy .Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
The Lotto draw will now be held to-night at McCarthy’s Bar. And the next one will be in two weeks time Sunday January 9th at the Clara Inn.
Just about everything that was planned for this week has been cancelled
or deferred. All schools are closed which put pay to the excitement of the little Nativity plays that the little children had prepared, and the excitement of day of the holidays.
The weekly Bingo is cancelled for Thursday night.
Santa came to Carriganima on Sunday. Not by helicopter, because of the weather, but he had his real live deer ,which went down a treat with all the children. And a great time was had by all.
Look out for lots of Local TV over the Christmas period.
The Annual Christmas Day climb of Mushera Mountain promises to be a real challenge this time and so will the New Years Day Swim in the Blackwater, but they are all for good causes which always seems to ease the pain.
Round the Fire will go ahead in Aubane on December 29th .

We note further path clearing and view the Bridge and Main Street. Soon we get to meet with [read more …] “Millstreet Snow Tour – Monday, 20th Dec. 2010”

Friendly Dog Now Back at Home
Delighted to report that the very friendly dog we featured yesterday afternoon on our website was recognised by her owner sometime later. The appreciative owner contacted the number indicated and was very glad to discover that it was in fact the family dog which featured and which had been receiving truly wonderful care by the two kindhearted people who originally found the dog which had strayed to West End. So the dog is now back at home. A story with a happy ending at Christmas! It also demonstrates a further valuable advantage of a local website. Sincere thanks to All who helped on this occasion.
Two Sides of the Snow
Each of us have a different view on this cold weather. For some like those playing in the snow above (also see tire tubing video below) it is all good fun, while for others like this fox which was captured at Coole this morning, snow is just another thing to make survival more difficult, and for her it can become a matter of life and death. Vaughan in Cork Schools side this evening
Michael Vaughan has been selected again this year in the Cork half-forward line as reigning champions Cork play in the Munster Vocational Schools SAFC final against Kerry in Rathmore at 5pm (this evening!).
It’s only a few miles away, so as the snow hasn’t arrived yet, it’s surely worth the short trip to support the lads. The match was switched from Austin Stack Park to Rathmore yesterday following a pitch inspection at the Tralee venue. Read a full article previewing the game in today’s Examiner.

LTV2 Millstreet – Changed Schedule for Tonight’s Broadcast
Programme 172 of LTV2 Millstreet is scheduled to be broadcast at 10.00 p.m. tonight (Thursday, 16th Dec. 2010). Seán Murphy has been diligently working on this special pre-Christmas programme and had the final editing almost completed when the editing programme being used developed a significant fault out of the blue. Despite Seán’s many valiant efforts to find a resolution to the problem, it appears that the editing machine requires some essential repairs. Therefore, tonight’s originally planned programme will not be broadcast. Very fortunately, LTV2’s William [read more …] “LTV2 Millstreet – Changed Schedule for Tonight’s Broadcast”
