“Irish Echo” in New York Refers to Millstreet Website Feature

2014-05-28 kim and Kanye at Millstreet Town Park-800Fr. Paddy O’Byrne, West End has just been in touch with us in relation to an article that John D. Neenan has read in New York’s “Irish Post” newspaper.   The article refers to the excellent “scoop” feature which Michael Cashman of our website team shared some weeks ago when he gave the impression that the two famous American people who were on honeymoon in Ireland had arrived in Millstreet Town Park  and were on the way to trace their Aunagloor roots at Millstreet Museum! (click the photo above to see the article)   The couple did in fact visit Ireland but unfortunately there was no sign of them in Millstreet … except in Michael’s hugely popular photoshopping expertise giving the real impression that they had landed in Millstreet a few weeks ago!   Thank you, Fr. Paddy and John D. for alerting us to such an uplifting and truly prestigious mention of the Millstreet website in the “Irish Echo”.   And well done to Michael for such creative wit.    One never knows who could be visiting www.millstreet.ie !    (S.R.)

Munster Hurling Final – Best of Luck to Mark

2014-07-12 SBest of Luck to Mark from Millstreet GAA
The GAA Hall and Fountain at the West end today. Photo from MillstreetGAA on twitter

The very best of luck to Mark Ellis who has been named again at centre back (#6) in the Cork team to play Limerick in the Munster Senior Hurling Final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday at 4pm. It was a great surprise because it had been widely reported up to Thursday that wouldn’t play because his knee injury hadn’t righted itself in time.

Hopefully Mark will play as well as he has in the previous matches, and that he’ll come off the field in one piece at the end with a Munster medal, in what is the last game before Páirc Uí Chaoimh is redeveloped. [read more …] “Munster Hurling Final – Best of Luck to Mark”

John McGuire (Fat Tony’s Barber Shop) preparing for the shave with JP Randles (GFC) in Galway Flying Club’s cessna 172

The Mile High Shave is part of the Today FM Shave or Dye campaign 2014 and was organised by the Galway Flying Club, based at Galway Airport, to raise much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society. The event involved club member JP Randles (formerly of Minor Row, Millstreet) getting his head shaved by John McGuire, of Fat Tony’s Barber Shop, in a Galway Flying Club Cessna 172 light aircraft a mile over Galway city. The day started well with the event being mentioned on Jimmy Norman’s morning show on Galway Bay FM and also on the Ray Darcy Show on Today FM. The weather on the day was far from ideal but with the skill of pilot Jarlath Conneely and a break in the weather we took off in a Cessna 172 Hawk XP aircraft call sign EI-BJO, affectionately known as “Juliet Oscar”, from runway 08 at Galway airport and headed west over the city all the while climbing to our target altitude. We levelled out over An Spidéil and John and JP setup for the shave. John completed the shave in no time and did a great job considering it was his first time in a light aircraft. With the shave complete Jarlath headed back to the airport and history had been made – the first head shave to be performed in a light aircraft had been successfully done over Galway. There are more photos below, and you can also visit Galway Flying Club on Facebook for more photos (38) of before, during, and after the event.

Regional Report 1225 – 8th July 2014

eilyby

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1225 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cooler and showery morning. The painting of our town is really beginning to show, with shabby places and eyesores fast becoming things of the past. It is truly amazing to see the way our people have rallied around this challenging project. And each and every one of them has to be complimented on their wonderful enthusiasm. So much is done and so much more to do, so please keep up the good work. The recent rain gave a real boost to all the flowers and green areas, so even the Lord Himself is helping. They always say that God helps those who help themselves. And I want to make special mention of Claudia’s Pitza Place in the town Square . Their use of colours is outstanding and that coupled with their delivery Van in matching colours parked on the street outside ,is a feature you just can’t miss.
