Minor All-Star for Darragh

It was wonderful to hear today that Darragh Cashman had been chosen at wing-back in this year’s Electric Ireland Minor Football Team of the Year. It’s a fantastic achievement, but not really unexpected as his performances were great all year, performances that brought a lot of pride to Millstreet people watching them.

Best of luck to Darragh and Luke in the All Ireland Minor Football Final

Best of luck to Darragh and Luke in the All Ireland Minor Football Final against Galway on Sunday in Croke Park.

For our Juvenile club, as all can see by the numerous best wishes given to the lads, this is the proudest achievement a club could receive to have two of our players representing our club on the biggest stage of all , on what could be an historical day in the lifetime of the GAA. Whatever about the Dublin/Kerry game, next Sunday it is all about Darragh and Luke for us. We have watched Darragh and Luke grow up into two fine young men and top players for club and county. Star quality was evident from an early age for both lads but quality alone won’t get you to the top. We in the club have witnessed the hard work, the sacrifices made, the injuries incurred, the thousands of miles travelled and the support of both families on their long journey that has now led to this wonderful occasion for us all on Sunday. This day is for Darragh and Luke but also for all the people involved in our club. From the young players who now have their own heroes to look up to and follow their example. From the parents of all the players in our club who have supported our club over the years. From the Coaches of all teams that have given up thousands of hours of their own time to develop our players. From the administrators and club officers of our club who also give up hours and do unseen work in the background. A day like this is what makes it all worthwhile and whatever the result, Darragh and Luke will always be heroes to us. For those who are lucky to have a ticket, make sure your voice is heard in support of our lads and for those that don’t , I am sure you will be glued to the television at 1pm on Sunday and if everything goes to plan then we will have victorious homecoming for the lads when they return home. Darragh and Luke , thank you for letting us share in this special occasion, enjoy your day no one deserves it more than you.

Best of luck, John O Riordan representing all from Duarigle Gaels Football Club & Millstreet Juvenile Hurling Club. And from all your supporters from the Millstreet and Cullen community.

Darragh and Brandon in Cork U15 Action

Well done Darragh Cashman, who was #11 for Cork U15A hurlers over the weekend as they won their intercounty tournament in Brinny, beating Limerick, Tipperary, and Galway to take the trophy. Darragh is on both the football and hurling U15 development squads! … And also to his Keale Gaels teammate Brandon Murphy (Dromtarriffe) who was playing with the Cork U15B team in Clare, who beat Kerry, Limerick, and Galway, on their way to also winning their tournament. Our Thurles Trio

All roads lead to Thurles today for the Munster Hurling Finals where three local lads are playing for Cork. First up is Conor O’Callaghan at corner back (#2) for the Cork Minors (2pm). Then it’s the turn of Jack O’Riordan in the Primary Game. Finally Mark Ellis lines up at centre back (#6) for the Seniors against Clare (4pm). The best of luck to them all, and have a great day everyone that’s lucky enough to have tickets.

It follows on from a day when four local lads were representing Cork footballers underage: Francis Cronin, captain of the U16s; Darragh Cashman & Luke Murphy, U15s; and Eoin Sheahan, U14.

Munster Minor Hurling Final Becons for Conor

Cork’s nine year wait for a Munster Minor Hurling Championship final appearance is over as they produced a hugely impressive performance to down the reigning champions Tipperary in this evening’s semi-final replay on a scoreline of 2-22 to 2-19. Starring at corner back (#2) was Conor O’Callaghan from Kilcorney, who plays his hurling with Keale Gaels (Dromtarriffe & Millstreet).

In the first game Conor came in for special mention for an excellent display at corner back, and similarly in the replay: “Conor O’Callaghan again impressive”. The final is on next Sunday in Thurles at 2pm and precedes the Senior final in which Mark Ellis will most likely be playing also.

Cork show steel to finally battle past Tipperary – “…When Tipp trimmed the margin to just a point in injury time extra time was looming, but Conor O’Callaghan and the Roches twins, Eoin and Brian, ensured Cork cleared their lines…”  [read more …] “Munster Minor Hurling Final Becons for Conor”

Millstreet / Duarigle Gaels Juvenile GAA Victory Social at Wallis Arms – Part 1

Recently at the Wallis Arms Hotel on two separate nights Millstreet / Duarigle Gaels Juvenile GAA celebrated with a superb Victory Social – on the Friday night with the younger members and on the Saturday night with the more senior players.  Here we share images from the first occasion where Sportsman Supreme, Kevin Crowley was the Guest of Honour who presented the wonderfully successful players with their medals.  The Disco which followed the meal, presentation and speeches – with very popular D.J. Kieran – was hugely enjoyed by the young players.  Great credit is due to the many dedicated Coaches and Coordinators.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.) And we share a further selection of pictures from the splendid annual occasion. [read more …] “Millstreet / Duarigle Gaels Juvenile GAA Victory Social at Wallis Arms – Part 1”
