Marian Players launch Cinderella

Rathmore’s Marian Players will mark their 25th anniversary early in 2012 with a colourful adaptation of Cinderella. On hand to launch the Players’ 25th anniversary in Teach Iosagáin was Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan TD. Methodist Update – November ’11

Meetings for worship, prayer and Bible study continue to be organized by the Methodist Church in Millstreet.  We now meet every Sunday at 7pm in the Canon O’Donovan Centre (kindly granted) on Clara Road in Millstreet.

Last week we were reading together some inspiring verses from 1 Peter 1:3-4 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In his great mercy he has given us new birth in to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and in to an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade… kept in heaven for you …”

Macra Novice Debating – County Semi-Final

Millstreet Macra’s Novice debating team defeated strong opposition from Donoughmore Macra in last weekend’s Cork County Novice Debating Semi-Final in Bandon.

They will now take part in the Final versus Bantry Macra na Feirme. The Final takes place in Ballinagree N.S. on Saturday, the 3rd December at 8.00 pm. All support would be greatly appreciated!

Eucharistic Congress Bell in Millstreet

The Eucharistic Congress Bell which will be in St.Patricks Church, Millstreet this evening for 7:30 mass and remains there until tomorrow morning, is a symbol of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress. The Bell will reflect the invitation to faith, to prayer, to reconciliation and to mission which has always been important in our Christian tradition and is no less so today. The pilgrimage of the bell throughout the Dioceses of Ireland will be a vehicle to:

– Invite people to deepen their communion with Christ and with one another,

Winners of the Annual Bazaar Raffle

Winners of the Raffle at the Millstreet Annual Bazaar held in the GAA Hall, 20th November were:
1st Prize – 32″ Flatscreen TV – Niall O’Brien
2nd Prize – Supervalue Bumper Hamper – Eileen Kiely
3rd Prize – €100 Shopping Vouchers – Denis Healey.

Telling the time without a watch

In this audio clip which appeared on HeritageCertificate.ie recently, the late Andrew Lynch, Ballydaly, recalls that it was possible to tell the time in the country side without looking at a watch, by looking at where the sun shone on the mountain, and by the noises from farmers and animals all around.

Brilliant Performances in Transition Year Drama Group’s Comedy at MCS

Magnificent performances by the brilliant cast of "It Runs in the Family!" - a hilarious comedy by Ray Cooney - photographed after their most enjoyable presentation on Tuesday, 22nd Nov. 2011. Following the lotto draw on Sunday night the Town Development Group held their draw with fine prizes to be won.   First prize of a 32inch flat-screen TV went Niall O Brien, Ballydaly, Second prize of a monster Christmas Hamper to Eileen Kiely, The Bridge and a €100 cheque went to Denis Healy,
Church St.

The towns shopping spree goes on all this week, with lots of Christmas gift ideas in the shops and €1,500 worth of vouchers to be won.

St. John’s GAA hosted an enjoyable end of season get together in the Wallis Arms Hotel Friday night last, where all concerned viewed 2011 as a year of progress that came close to landing silverware. Millstreet GAA Club held their Prizegiving night at the Wallis Arms last weekend. While a great night was had, a number of awards were given to players who excelled during the year, and to club members who have given hugely of their time and effort to the club:

From a list of potential candidates , the vision and authority that our dual recipient brought to his game on the field culminated with an immense display that helped Millstreet regain the Duhallow U21 Football Championship crown after a 20 year lapse.

Equally adapt in both hurling and football merits Michael Vaughan a deserving recipient of the inaugural Tadhg Moynihan Memorial Trophy.

Death Notice: Jerome O’Hare, Coole

The death has occurred peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2011, of Jerome O’Hare of The Bungalow, Coole, Millstreet. Beloved husband of Kax, loving and much loved father of Derry, Marie, Rena, John, Tom, Finian, Anne and the late Denis, brother of Fr. Donie, Fr. Brendan and the late Tommy, Victor, Denis and Eddie; sadly missed by his wife and family, daughters-in-law Máiréad, Mary and Helen, sons-in-law John, Seání and Kieran, grandchildren, relatives and friends. R.I.P. Reposing at his residence from 4pm to 8pm this Monday evening, with Rosary at 8pm. Removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet for Requiem Mass tomorrow, Tuesday, at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

County U21 Hurling Final

The County U21 A Hurling Final, the last County Championship Final of 2011, takes place on Sunday, November 20th at 6pm in Páirc Uí Rinn. Duhallow, winners in 2009 and runners-up in 2010, play East Cork Champions Midleton in Sunday’s decider, which has all the ingredients for a classic encounter. Best of luck to the Millstreet trio on the team – Mark Ellis, Michael Vaughan and Dave McCaul. Midleton are hot favourites for the title. Big week for Charlie

It’s been a big week for Charlie Drake. The 32-year-old Derinagree man took home the Australian Rally Championships Premier League title last weekend, after two battling stages in Victoria. Celtic Motorsports were three points behind going into the rally and needed to win both of their heats in Warragul, Victoria, to take the 2011 title.

And to follow up his big win, he got married to Narelle today. Congrats on both counts to Charlie.
