Wednesday night of next week July 20th will see the screening of the Irish Premier of the “Forgotten Maggies.” on Irish Television. The Director and producer is none other than our own Steven O’Riordan.
Telling the story of the women who suffered in the Laundries and Institutions around the country, this documentary received outstanding reviews both at the Galway Festival in 2009, and a standing ovation at the Canter Film Centre, New York where it was hailed a compelling, brave and honest piece of work. Fondest greeting s dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this
sunny Tuesday morning.following a night of heavy rain.
There was little evidence of a recession with all the crowds who turned out
at the weekend for the many outdoor events that were held, The Munster
finals in Killarney. The Garden Show in Mallow, Vintage in Castletownroche
the Millstreet Country Park and so on. All were blessed with fine weather,
so win, lose or draw ,it was great to see the people out in such large
numbers and rising above the doom and gloom.

Interest in Horse Show even greater

Interest in this year’s Millstreet Horse Show is even greater than last year, according to Noel C Duggan.
“Entries are flying in and we have three girls on the phones. Also, we were the first to take entries on line and it has proved to be great for both the show and competitors.
“I can guarantee that this year’s show will be spectacular, with huge improvements in the lay-out of the place. Eight sand arenas will be in operation, all drained and refreshed, and we have undertaken landscaping. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice seasonal Tuesday morning.
The beautiful weather over the weekend made all the difference to the many outdoor activities that were held around the area. The Corpus Christi parade was held through the town immediately after 11oclock Mass on Sunday. It was well attended. The Pipe band played and the choir sang at the Benediction at the Alter in the town Square.

The choir is now on it’s Summer break and will resume in September.

Sligo may have Yeats, England may have Wordsworth … but Millstreet is doubly blessed to have two such gifted Poets as Karen O’Connor (Mulqueen) in Tralee and Francis Duggan in Australia, both of whom are supremely proud of their Millstreet roots and are truly marvellous Ambassadors not only for Millstreet but for the Irish nation. Cullen, of course, are blessed to have renowned poet Bernard O’Donoghue who works in Oxford. Karen O’Connor’s “Between the Lines” Being Launched in Tralee Tomorrow
Gifted Poet, Karen O’Connor, formerly of Station Road, Millstreet we hope to meet tomorrow at 6.00 p.m. in Siamsa Tíre Theatre & Arts Centre, Town Park, Tralee when her book “Between the Lines” will be officially launched by the Mayor of Tralee, Gillian Wharton Slattery. This is just one of the many very uplifting comments on Karen’s first publication “Fingerprints” (2005):
“I think I’ll never forget reading “FINGERPRINTS (On Canvas)” for the first time. It was such a delight to discover a voice powered by a spirit of passionate celebration while at the same time confronting dark, difficult emotions, situations and ideas. This is a brilliant, humane, memorable book.”
