Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade approved

2013-05 - Millstreet Waste Water Treatment Plant
Millstreet Waste Water Treatment Plant (from above in May 2013). It is located across the road from the Fire Station, just off the Station Road.

It has been announced that design proposals for the Millstreet Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade have been approved at Government level, and that Cork County Council will now proceed with preparing contract documents with a view to seeking tenders as soon as possible.  The contract is estimated at a cost of  €4.1, and it is expected that it will make the Millstreet plant compliant with the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive.

The upgrade was called for in a 2010 survey on all urban treatment plants in the country. The following measures needed to be completed:

  • Increase capacity of treatment plant (2015+)
  • Provide tertiary treatment or relocate outfall (2015+)
  • Provide nutrient removal or relocate outfall

The heat was a killer but i kept riding

2013-07-07 Ian Redmond rounds the corner by the GAA Hall in the Cycle Race during the Gathering Festival in Millstreet

Fermoy cyclist Ian Redmond wrote a piece
in his blog about his trip in the Race at the Millstreet Gathering Festival:

“… The race beg an after the u16 race had finished. It was so hot i was thinking how long would i last in the heat but that never came into my mind again. I jumped away early on after the start to see would i get a gap but i didn’t get much of a gap. One limerick guy came with me but after few 100ms we were caught. I stayed up around the front for most of the race and stayed active. We had a 3 min lead on the cat1&2s at the start but they would eventually catch us only the first  6 who got away would. A lot of riders tried going up the road but i think the heat was getting to them and no one was getting a reasonable gap who ever jumped up the road. They would stay out for a bit but would come back into the bunch. The road surface was quite good. Just after the finish line going down a small drag it was a bit rough but it was grand other than that.

On lap 5 Paidi O’Brien and 5 others joined us and a category 3 rider ended up doing a tumble into the ditch. I never saw him again. Hope he … [read the full article on Ian’s blog ianredmondcycling.com]

Census 2011: How many Polish in Millstreet

The Central Statistics Office today released its Migration and Diversity Report which looks at diversity in the form of non-Irish nationals living in Ireland, along with foreign languages spoken and ability to speak English.

Millstreet gets a mention on page 11 as the town with the 5th highest Polish Poluation in Ireland with 15% of its population being Polish nationals. A few years ago we reported that in 2006 Millstreet had by far the highest Polish population in the country at 14%. (see the tables below for details) It has risen slightly (even if anecdotally quite a few seem to have left) while other other towns have seen their Polish population climb dramatically. Residential Property Prices

A long awaited register of residential property prices in Ireland has been launched yesterday afternoon (30th September).

The register, which can be seen at propertypriceregister.ie, provides the price, address and date of sale on residential properties purchased in Ireland since 1 January 2010.

It includes details for both cash sales and sales which involved mortgages. The Property Services Regulatory Authority said that the site will be updated on a regular basis with information published within a month of the date of a sale.

The site is awkward enough to navigate, however we have listed below the properties that sold in the Millstreet area since 2010. What is surprising is not the price of sale, but how few have been sold compared to what’s on the market. Having heard that some [read more …] “Residential Property Prices”

Competition Authority finds in favour of Millstreet Horse Show

from MillstreetHorseShow.ie: The Competition Authority has recently finalised its investigation into alleged anti-competitive behaviour by Show Jumping Ireland (SJI). They have found in favour of the consumers right to free choice thus vindicating our position held firmly over the past three years.

Subject to two laid conditions being met by the host show, SJI members cannot be penalised in any way – to do so would be unlawful. Millstreet International Horse Show has no difficulty in satisfying these two conditions.

The Millstreet International Horse Show is on from Tuesday 7th to Sunday 12th of August 2012.
