The annual RNLI Ireland awards took place over the weekend at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin, with volunteers and supporters being recognised for their role in raising funds and awareness for the charity that saves lives at sea. Guest of honour was RTE’s Bryan Dobson, who spoke of his admiration for the RNLI and handed out awards to forty-five volunteers. Bina and Liam Burke’s received a regional group supporter award for their work on behalf of Countmacsherry lifeboat. Telling the time without a watch
In this audio clip which appeared on HeritageCertificate.ie recently, the late Andrew Lynch, Ballydaly, recalls that it was possible to tell the time in the country side without looking at a watch, by looking at where the sun shone on the mountain, and by the noises from farmers and animals all around.
Big week for Charlie
It’s been a big week for Charlie Drake. The 32-year-old Derinagree man took home the Australian Rally Championships Premier League title last weekend, after two battling stages in Victoria. Celtic Motorsports were three points behind going into the rally and needed to win both of their heats in Warragul, Victoria, to take the 2011 title.
And to follow up his big win, he got married to Narelle today. Congrats on both counts to Charlie.

Lucky Escape from Rockfall
Kilcorney man David Nolan was on a guided tour up the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand when part of a cliff collapsed near to where they were walking. Camera in hand he managed to video the action as rocks and dirt passed over their heads, luckily missing everyone.

The little hen lays green eggs (rare) and six little
chicks hatched. They are a lovely lavender colour.
CHELSEA
Chelsea was born on the 15th March 2005.
It was the first day of Cheltemham, naming her Chelsea was suitable to the occasion.
She was born to the 12year old Jessie.
Chelsea is Jessie’s first foal.
SASPERILLA
This swan moved in at the lake, Drishane Castle on Christmas Eve. She befriended the staff and residents of the Castle. They became very fond of her and named her Sasperilla.
