Millstreet 3 Fairview 4

Millstreet v Fairview (AOH Cup) – 11/09/2011
We lost 4-3 to Fairview in the AOH cup this morning. The game was very loose for the first 15 mins with neither side dominating but the game started to settle after that. Fairview had a good spell of pressure before we created our first chance when Barry Lawlor was put clear by Paul Dawson but he shot just over the bar. The same 2 combined again 5 mins before the half but the keeper saved well from Lawlor and just on the stroke of half time we conceded. Tadhg Collins had a good chance to get us level but shot wide under pressure but it was Fairview who got the next to make it 2-0. [read more …] “Millstreet 3 Fairview 4”

Millstreet Tidy Towns Association Celebrates Success & Acknowledges Help

Noreen Dennehy, as one of the principal co-ordinators in Millstreet Tidy Towns Association, is presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight (5th Sept.) on the occasion of a celebratory function when members of the dedicated Association marked the fact they wished to acknowledge the help accorded on the many Thursday night clean-up projects. And purely coincidentally, Millstreet was awarded not only a national bronze medal in category D but also a number of financial awards announced earlier today in Dublin at the National Tidy Towns Awards 2011 ceremony. Noreen in her address very especially expressed sincere thanks to Millstreet Macra na Feirme for their much appreciated help over the past number of months. With a hugely impressive mark of 291 Millstreet is only 19 marks behind Ireland's 2011 Tidiest Town, Killarney. Congratulations to both Killarney and Millstreet. Tonight's get together involved a group who assembled and worked together every Thursday night for the clean-up project over the past season. The overall Millstreet Tidy Towns Association will celebrate today's national award at a later point. (S.R.)

Tidy Town Results 2011

News today that Millstreet have again done well in the National tidy Towns Competition. We have improved our score by another 4 points from 287 to 291, and in the process won a National Bronze Medal for Category D (population of 2,500 to 5,000), come in second (and highly commended) in Cork North behind the village of Coolagown, and won the Category D section for North Cork.

On concluding the report, the adjudicator had this to say:

Millstreet is a vibrant, exciting town to visit and it has used its history and topography to excellent effect. Few towns have the advantage of such pleasant walks so readily to hand. Well done to all involved in this delightful presentation.

Well done and a big thank you to everyone involved the local Tidy Towns in any shape or form towards trying to make Millstreet a nicer place to live.
