Statement from Millstreet Community Council re Bank Closure

Millstreet Community Council Ltd.

The decision of Bank of Ireland to close 103 branches in Ireland was greeted with dismay throughout the country. The inclusion of Bank of Ireland in Millstreet has come as a shock to its many customers not only in the town but also its hinterland. It affects not alone the business sector but also many individuals who supported it loyally over many years.
This is another knife in the heart of rural Ireland. Millstreet is fortunate in having the AIB, the Post Office and the Credit Union but the closing of B of I or of any business is most regrettable in any rural town. It is imperative that if rural Ireland is to succeed and prosper, we must retain all our services to which our people have every right.
We wish to thank the staff for their diligence and dedication over the years and we wish them well for the future.

Bank of Ireland – Millstreet Branch to Close

In yet another blow for small towns around Ireland, Bank of Ireland today unveiled plans to close 103 branches across Ireland, marking a major shrinkage of its network and another sign of the troubles facing the Irish banking industry. Amongst them are the Millstreet and Kanturk branches.

Bank of Ireland have said that under a new deal it will offer its services through 900 outlets of An Post in the Republic. The closures are due to start from September later this year.
