Millstreet has recently been added to a growing list of Age Friendly towns

Millstreet has recently been added to a growing list of Age Friendly towns across Cork. This is the result of a process which began when County Cork committed itself to establishing a county where older people can live full, active and healthy lives by signing up to Ireland’s National Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme (AFCC). Millstreet is now one of 8 Age Friendly towns across Cork – the others are – Bandon, Bantry, Charleville, Cobh, Kinsale, Passage West Monkstown and Mitchelstown.

To celebrate the inclusion of Millstreet into the growing list of Age Friendly towns – Cork County Council in conjunction with Millstreet County Council & Cork County Older People’s Council (OPC) have given 200 Age Friendly Activity Packs to be distributed to the Over 60’s around the Millstreet area. If you are interested in receiving a pack please get in touch with Millstreet Day Centre who are helping to deliver the packs locally. Just send your Name & Eircode to <email> or Text (087) 9321617

Plans/projects that are in development/in the pipeline at the moment include:

  • Increase number of Age Friendly Parking spaces in the County

Statement from Millstreet Community Council re Bank Closure

Millstreet Community Council Ltd.

The decision of Bank of Ireland to close 103 branches in Ireland was greeted with dismay throughout the country. The inclusion of Bank of Ireland in Millstreet has come as a shock to its many customers not only in the town but also its hinterland. It affects not alone the business sector but also many individuals who supported it loyally over many years.
This is another knife in the heart of rural Ireland. Millstreet is fortunate in having the AIB, the Post Office and the Credit Union but the closing of B of I or of any business is most regrettable in any rural town. It is imperative that if rural Ireland is to succeed and prosper, we must retain all our services to which our people have every right.
We wish to thank the staff for their diligence and dedication over the years and we wish them well for the future.
