“Where the Road Takes Me” at 7pm this Sunday on C103

We thank Presenter, John Greene for advance information on this Sunday evening’s programme – 12th Sept. 2021 at 7pm on C103.  (S.R.)

Where The Road Takes Me – Sunday 12th Sept.

This week on ‘Where the road takes me’, John Greene continues the Tale of three Norries.

In Programme two we meet songwriter John Murphy who was asked to write a number of songs for a CD to commemorate the burning of Cork City in December of 1920.

Although a launch and promotional events were out of the question because of Covid-19, the CD has almost sold itself.

Only seventy copies remain, with all proceeds going to ‘Alana’s Butterfly Wings’

Like the other two Norries, John has a story to tell which is unrelated to music.

Born in the UK, John was brought to Ireland for adoption.  He relates his story articulately, speaking about his dysfunctional and unfit adoptive parents in Cork.

Living the life of a loner as a child, without love, care and affection, John still finds difficulty in socialising.  Meeting his birth-mother for the first time and benefiting from her company for two years before her death, is a part of his story told emotionally. Firefighter Driver/Mechanic Supreme John Sheahan Retires

Following twenty years of wonderfully dedicated service to Millstreet Fire Brigade Service as Firefighter Driver/Mechanic supreme John Sheahan of Mount Leader, Millstreet has recently retired.   At a reception  in Millstreet Fire Brigade Station in honour of John – visiting Fire Officers paid many tributes to John including the fact that the hugely high standard in evidence in his magnificent care of the Fire Engines has been exemplary and consistent over the twenty years.   Eamonn O’Keeffe speaking on behalf of the Millstreet Crew expressed sincere thanks to John for being such an inspirational colleague towards all the Crew over the years.  Special presentations were made to John and his wife, Anna in the presence of his Family where three generations were present.   Refreshments were enjoyed by all with some specially decorated cupcakes and a Retirement Cake impressing all present.   It is wonderful to also note that John is truly handing on the torch to his son Darren who will shortly be taking up his full-time position as Firefighter with Cork City Fire Service.   We extend our very best wishes not only to John on a very Happy, Healthy and Long Retirement but also to Darren in his new career.   Here we share a selection of images from the recent superb reception at Millstreet Fire Station.  Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)
