It was truly a Family Day at the recent Coffee and Cars Event in Drishane organised by Millstreet Vintage Club.
Andy and June O’Connor from Wales recently visited Millstreet Museum. I attended Coláiste Pádraig, Millstreet at the same time in the 1960s as Andy. Great to recall precious memories.

Henry McKean, Broadcaster supreme from “Newstalk” visited Millstreet on Friday, 28th April 2023 to prepare a Radio Feature on the 30th Anniversary of the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest in Millstreet.  Having enjoyed a delicious flat white coffee which Henry praised very highly at “Capabu” in The Square, he proceeded to interview a wide variety of people asking them to recall favourite memories of such a prestigious and very famous event.   In the above recording of Henry’s Broadcast which was firstly aired on “Newstalk” on Monday, 8th May, listen out for Catherine Hartigan, Margaret Kelleher (Mountleader), Paudie Healy, Fionnuala SweeneyNoel D. Duggan, Niamh Kavanagh and our recording at Millstreet Museum.   We would be delighted to learn who were the other people who feature in the above recording – two further gentlemen were included in the broadcast.   Well, well done to Henry on such a superb Radio Feature from Millstreet so brilliantly edited and presented.   When Henry left Millstreet he travelled to London for the Coronation and later to Liverpool for the Eurovision to present further excellent reports for “Newstalk”.  Tap on the images to enlarge. Eily’s Report – 30th May

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly Report.

They say that if play with fire you’ll burn your fingers. Well I wasn’t playing with fire, but I was cutting some nettles with the secateurs why I didn’t use something with a longer handle I’ll never know, well anyway I got stung, and my fingers are throbbing.   But maybe it’s not such a bad thing. Long ago people suffering from ‘the pains’ often patted the affected area with these unwelcome plants. We had an elderly neighbour one time who suffered from backache and she’d gladly lie on a bad of nettles to drive her ache away. How much success she had I’ll never know. So who knows my experience today may ease my arthritic paws. If not I still have the hope that the ones now soaking in water will nourish my plants in the weeks ahead.
