Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this very seasonal Tuesday morning with treatcherous and snow all around.

Well it won’t be long now. Just a few more days and by all accounts its going to be a white one. I’ll be killed for saying it, but I love snow. And a white Christmas would be such a bonus.

No matter what the weather, the shopping goes on with perhaps some people forced to shop at home because of the weather. The Marquee will be in the Square till Christmas Eve and vouchers at the Credit Union will solve your gift problem at any price, And by what I hear, they are proving very very popular. Some worth €20 each, were offered as prizes on LTV2s program last week and the lucky winners were, Breda O Leary, West End, Sean and Delia Kelleher, Macroom, Kathleen McAulliffe, Millstreet, and John F. Tarrant Rathcoole.Congrats all round.

Million congratulations to the Cork Ladies Football team, and all connected with them, on making it a five–in-a-row on Sunday in Croke Park. It was such an exciting match, and could go either way up to the closing minutes. But the then the hunger of the Corkonians came to the fore, they were blind to everything except the goal-mouth, and sealed their victory at the last minute. And to think that only two weeks ago this bunch of beautiful young women, also won the All-Ireland camogie final at the same venue. I hope they get the recognition, and the esteem that they deserve. Congratulations to them again. They did us proud and we are justly Proud of them.

Oh dear, should I be depressed, disillusioned, have a feeling of hopelessness, another defeat, to Kerry. But after having a little moan, one can only admire them because we all know that they will rise up and get ready for the fray again next year.

In the meantime lets look at the girls. Two weeks ago, their Cork Camogie team won the All Ireland, in Croke Park, and their football team are putting the final preparations for a similar level next Sunday.

I don’t have the lotto results for you this morning. Sadly one of our esteemed members John Cronin passed away over the weekend and as a mark of respect the draw was not held on Sunday night. Instead it will be held at the Mal Passo Bar at nine to-night. Meanwhile the gentle John of 61 years of age will be laid to rest following  the 1pm Requim Mass at our local church today.

Guards of honour drawn from the various local voluntary bodies that he worked with over the years, lined the route from Tarrants funeral home last evening, and will again to-day from the church to his last resting place, in St Mary’s cemetery, which is within close proximity of his family home at Priests Cross. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Breda, daughter Elaine, son Alan and all their extended family. Ar dheis De, go raibh a anam dilis.

Last week I mentioned that a bunch of house keys had been found  on the Drishane Rd , thanks to the power of local radio,  the owner made contact right away and was very glad to get them back.

The Fundraising Music Fest and BBQ in aid of LTV2 was a resounding success at Carriginma on Sunday. Light rain in the early part of the day caused a bit of concern, but we needn’t have worried, soon it cleared away and the crowds came out in large numbers to support us. It would be impossible for me, in the time allowed, to list all the people who helped to make it the great success that it was, and in case I’d leave anyone out I’ll have to refrain from mentioning  names .

Everybody’s contribution was needed and appreciated.  They know who they are and each can take a bow , The great thing was that as well as supporting LTV2, the people enjoyed themselves. They enjoyed the food and the meeting with other people from 3 in the afternoon till closing time.

Needless  to say Cork’s win over Waterford was well monitored and the cheers that went up at the final whistle drowned out everything else for that moment. Many thanks to one and all

The development  of the O’Sullivan  Bearra Way is making news again. And the contract for the signposting etc is gone out to tender. All those who agree to let it pass through their lands will be covered by the special insurance policy, and the farmer or land owner is indemnified. And as all routes nationwide are closed for one day every year, there is no danger of a right of way being created. The arrangement can be cancelled or changed at any time, as  the landowner or farmer sees fit.

Details of the insurance policy are to be sent on in the near future and they will be accessible through our website.

A fond Cead Mile Failte to all those who are holidaying in our area at the moment. Full information can be got from the friendly staff at our tourist office in the Carnegie Hall.
