Fondest Greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this wet, windy, but mild calm Tuesday morning.

The Pony Show which is held every year at the Green Glens for charity, was again a great success on Friday Saturday and Sunday last. Entries were away up on former years, and competitions didn’t finish on Sunday night until well after mid-night. Many of the horse-owners expressing their disappointment that there was no Summer Show here this year. But please God we will see a return again in 2010.

Next feature at the Green Glens will be the popular Self Build exhibition which will be on the second weekend of November.

Over ten of our strapping people took part in the Dublin City Marathon over the weekend. Well done to them.

Church Gate collection in aid of our Christmas lights will be taken up in Millstreet this weekend.

Here are the results of this weeks parish Lotto draw which was held at the Mal Passo Bar on Sunday night Numbers drawn were, 4, 13, 28, 31. and the jackpot was not won. €100 went to Mary Ankatel, of LTV2 , the seller was Tom Carroll and he got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Jack Cronin New York. €20 each to Francis Kelleher, Tooreenbawn. John O Sullivan, Gneeveguilla, Nora Coleman, Murphys Tce. Adam Dinneen ,Keale. Pat O Callaghan c/o Millwheel, Joan Cronin, Coolinarna, John O Sullivan, Drishane View, and Mary O Mahony, Inchileagh. Jackpot for next week €15,000 the draw at McCarthys Bar on Sunday night.

The time changed over the weekend and we all put our clocks back for an extra hour in bed. As a result evenings will be much darker earlier and all road users are asked to be extra careful, especially around schools and school buses .

Big things happening down at our local library.Apart from the weekly storytelling for 3 to 7 yr olds on Saturdays at 11, there’s a competition coming up for 10yr olds upwards. The prize two tickets for the Anne Frank and Me show at the Everyman Theatre on November 9th to 14th. For details contact Breda.

Further to that there’s a new Book Club, for 10 to 12 yr olds, just set up at the Library, again Breda for details at 029-21920.

Our town especially the pubs were very busy at the weekend with many people home on a break on the Bank Holiday. Groups, many of them students meeting up with friends and catching up with all the news.

This coming weekend of course is Halloween and the Aubane Social Club are staging their annual Fancy Dress Ball at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday night. They hold it for some deserving cause every year and this time they are pulling out all the stops in aid of Cystic fibrosis. Everybody young and the more mature are preparing to dress up on this occasion.

There will be an auction of some valuable items. O’Leary’s Butchers will do a BBQ. and music by the popular Celts will begin at 9. DJ for the night is Mad Dave. Sponsorship cards are available over a very wide area ,please support them well and please Dress up in your best disguise on Friday night because there are some great prizes for the best.

The launch of Fr. Sean Tucker’s latest book

“The Famed Hill of Clara: It’s poetry History and Heritage” took place at the Aubane Social Centre on Sunday evening last. It’s a great read and would make a ideal gift. It’s on sale at Wordsworth .

A brand new program by LTV2 on your screens this Thursday night at 10 and it will be repeated on Sunday night at 8.

A Choral Concert in aid of our Church Restoration Fund will be held in our Church on November 29th.

The Lovely Millstreet Country Park will be closing for the Winter season on November 1st. But they are open for some Christmas Festivities on Dec. 9.10 15 , 16 and 17. Tickets are €35 each. Festivities comprise of Mulled Wine Reception, 4 course meal, Live Music, Dancing, Bingo, Cards, Santa and lots more thrown in, such as tour of the park on the Christmas Train. And I want to say a very fond hello to 95yr old John Murphy, formerly of Tullig, now at Watergrasshill, whom we met at the Park on Sunday.

Work is progressing well on the restoration work on our church. And in recent weeks the morning masses at ten are being held at Tarrant’s Funeral home in order to avoid interrupting the work.

Canon Declan asked the people last week to come on Thursday and help to clean up the church for a wedding next day,on Friday. And on Sunday he thanked the large crowd who turned up in answer to his call and made it spick ‘n span.

We are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the ballad which was held here at the weekend, which will decide if the Vigil Masses in future will be held at 6.30 or 8 pm. Needless to say there are preferences for each. But the majority will win out in the end.

People wishing their loved ones to be included in all the special Masses during the month of November can hand in their donations this weekend.

Candles will be blessed at his weekends masses for placing on graves, and short services will be held in Millstreet graveyard on Sunday November 1st. at 11. at Drishane at 2.30 St Marys 3pm & Cullen after their 10.30 Mass.

And still with Cullen it is with deep regret that we hear that Fr.Gerard O Leary is being sent to Killarney. On behalf of our community I want to thank him sincerely for his great work in our Parish and wish him every success and Gods Blessing in his new ministry. He replacement will be a Fr. Gunne.

Many congratulations to Derry Sheehan,on winning first prize in his category ,at the Muintir na Tire Awards function which was held at Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig at the weekend. Derry prize was in appreciation of his hillside walks the vicinity of Clara Mountain.

The people of Carriginima held a gala function recently in honour of those who received their Confirmation 50 years ago. There was a large gathering and I think that very few were missing from the original list. What a lovely idea.

The Glen Theatre enjoy full house again at the weekend for their four one-act plays. And they will do it all again on November 1st, 13th and15th. To book contact them at 029 56239.

Millstreet defeated both Youghal and Clonakilty over the past week to reach the semi final of the Cork County Premier Minor Football League.
To- night, Millstreet meet Meelin in the Duhallow Junior B Football Championship in Millstreet Town Park at 8pm.
