“Where the Road Takes Me” at 7 this Evening on C103

We thank Presenter, John Greene, for the following advance information on his weekly programme being broadcast at 7pm on C103Sunday, 1st Oct. 2017.  (S.R.)

On Where the road takes me this Sunday evening, our journey takes us to the East of the County to Shanagarry.  John Greene pays a visit to author,
teacher, celebrity chef and co-founder of Ballymaloe Cookery School – Rory O’Connell.

After what he describes as a ‘free range’ upbringing in the village of
Culahill County Laois,  Rory tested his resolve for a career in both the
legal and auctioneering professions.  Deciding eventually that neither
careers were for him,  and on the suggestion of his mother, he went to join his sister Darina Allen at Ballymaloe House,  where he worked under Myrtle Allen.

Honing his skills under Nico Ladenis in Chez Nico in London and with Alice Waters in California, he returned to Ballymaloe House as head chef.

There are food matters galore to be discussed on this week’s programme
including why we Irish murder vegetables and have an unwarranted fear of fish.

While the regulations seem to be sufficiently stringent, Rory O’Connell
believes that the whole area of organic growing requires more explanation
for the consumer.
