Caitlin outperformed a field of 36 pipers from Ireland and Scotland. Caitlin, who also won the All Ireland Under 14 now adds the much coveted All Ireland Junior Cup to her list of prizes. She will now move into a higher grade and will compete in at Intermediate level.  This is the second Houlihan name to go on the cup with her sister Margaret having won it in 1999.

BTEI Social Studies Course – November

BTEI are running a short FETAC Level 5 Social Studies course in Mallow in early November to service the increased demand for part-time education.  With a huge increase in unemployment, the need for certified up-skilling in a changing workplace is more apparent.

This introductory course offers FETAC Level 5 Social Studies one night per week (7-10pm) over 10 weeks, which aims to give participants an understanding of the core theories and methodologies of Sociology and prepare them for further study at Post Leaving Certificate Colleges in this area.  It is hoped that a second FETAC Level 5 module (Human Growth and Development) will be offered in the New year.

Dairy Show goes Under Cover

AFTER a wet 2009, cows but no rain are on offer next Saturday 17th October at the National Dairy Show. The event is completely under cover in the Green Glens Arena at Millstreet, and offers an enjoyable day out for all the family, whatever the weather.

Along with top quality Holstein Friesian and Jersey cattle bidding for the Irish Examiner supreme championship, there are trade stands, the Irish Examiner Farming Forum, and an elite sale of cattle organised by Taaffe Auctions.

Plenty there to keep dairy farmers occupied, and organisers have made a special effort to make it a family event, with flower arranging and cookery demonstrations, and a children’s’ section with bouncy castles, face painting and a pets corner….
