It is still one of the biggest nights ever for Irish boxing. 25 years ago today (March 18th 1993), Steve Collins dethroned Chris Eubank as WBO World super-middleweight champion at Millstreet.
When in the 1970s I was visiting relatives in Surrey, England I went to visit the headquarters of the BBC in London and just happened to be at the Reception Desk when I became aware of an excited group of people entering the front door of the famous building. I couldn’t believe it when I discovered that it was the great Muhammad Ali with his entourage and supporters arriving to participate in a television interview. I so regretted not having had a camera with me on such an historic occasion but the memory is so precious. We offer our sincere sympathy to all of his family, friends and fans on the sad departure of this truly great and charismatic gentleman and sportsman supreme to his Eternal Reward. (S.R.)
