Cork’s nine year wait for a Munster Minor Hurling Championship final appearance is over as they produced a hugely impressive performance to down the reigning champions Tipperary in this evening’s semi-final replay on a scoreline of 2-22 to 2-19. Starring at corner back (#2) was Conor O’Callaghan from Kilcorney, who plays his hurling with Keale Gaels (Dromtarriffe & Millstreet).
In the first game Conor came in for special mention for an excellent display at corner back, and similarly in the replay: “Conor O’Callaghan again impressive”. The final is on next Sunday in Thurles at 2pm and precedes the Senior final in which Mark Ellis will most likely be playing also.
Commiserations to Shane Hickey (Millstreet) and Evan Murphy (Dromtarriffe) who played with the Cork Minors who lost the Munster Minor semi-final last night to Kerry, but it’s great vindication for the local clubs to see more of our lads making the grade and playing in the Cork geansaí. Evan goaled after ten seconds, and added another two points during the game, while Shane came on after half time, but Kerry weren’t for stopping at that stage. Last Sunday (13th September 09) Millstreet Minors were narrowly defeated after extra time in the County Minor Championship against Bantry Blues in a high scoring game by 4-14 to 2-14. Below are some photos and the match report:
Croke Rovers put back to back Duhallow MAHC titles together after overcoming Millstreet in a keenly contested encounter in Millstreet last evening.
The ground stood up remarkably well to the incessant rain earlier in the day and at the end of the hour, Croke Rovers were full value to retain their crown. At their best, Crokes touch was good, their striking slick and intelligent.
Millstreet competed admirably all through, refusing to go away in a second half comeback. However, they lacked the overall balance required and didn’t possess the necessary penetration in attack …
