Millstreet Community School Wonderfully Represented at BT Young Scientists Exhibition 2013 in Dublin’s R.D.S.

We thank teacher, Chris Horan for the following superb update on the tremendous involvement of Millstreet Community School with the currently running prestigious BT Young Scientists Exhibition at the R.D.S. in Dublin.  Clearly the very talented and enthusiastic Students very much impressed the Taoiseach and the Minister.   Sincere congratulations to the Students and their Teachers – Ambassadors supreme for Millstreet – and we wish them all the very best of luck.   (S.R.)

Millstreet maintained its remarkable record in qualifying for the finals in the RDS in January. This year’s project involves research into an “Algorithm for ranking Gaelic Football Teams”. The team will investigate ranking formulae in other sports and then devise a method most suited to Gaelic Football. They intend analysing 5 years of results in both league and championship and will give each win a points score based on several criteria. This will be perfectly placed to facilitate an open draw seeding process which would be needed prior to an open-draw championship. Up to 2,000 projects vied for the final places, and with just over 500 qualifying, it is already a big success. Best of luck to Nathan Harman, Seán O’Callaghan and Darragh Hickey in their research and a big thank you to the Community Council for their continued support to the school’s Young Scientist initiative.  (Chris Horan)
