Tom loved nothing more than to sing, and he sang “Two Sweethearts“, on the “Round the Fireside With Jimmy Reidy” programme – C103FM Monday night May 28th 2012, at the Sandpit House (above).

Marie Twomey and Tom Goggin of the Millstreet Community Singers were on Radio Kerry tonight. Marie sang a Joe Dolan song “Jenny” a Joe Dolan song, and Tom sang “Phone Call to Heaven”. Listen to them in the video above (you may need to turn up the volume a little, and apologies for the poor quality audio).
We extend our sincere sympathy to the Cashman and Goggin Families on the sad departure of Tom Goggin – a true gentleman of the very highest calibre. Such was the courage of Tom that at the recent Commemoration Event for Bernard Moynihan in Rathcoole he dedicatedly attended the entire ceremony despite how challenging it must have been for him. It’s uplifting to note that his nephew, Michael Cashman – Coordinator supreme of our Millstreet website – has uploaded some of Tom’s wonderful singing with the Millstreet Community Singers. Constantly requested on “Radio Treasures” Tom’s magnificent version of “My Phonecall to Heaven” truly illustrates Tom’s marvellous singing voice. We shall continue to play this musical gem on a very regular basis on our programme. Tom also sang for the Pope with the Duhallow Choir at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. He was instrumental in bringing a Cardinal with Kilcorney roots on a very special visit to Kilcorney. This visit is permanently marked on an outdoor plaque at Kilcorney Church. Above all, Tom had time to listen to all and was always so willing to share his excellent knowledge on the history of the area and beyond. He has enriched the lives of all who were privileged to have known him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
In the flesh Kilcorney’s Tom Goggin has sung his last song
To a dying breed of singers he was one who belong
He sang the old songs that few know of today
Not many left like him which is sad to say
Kilcorney’s Tom Goggin a true gentleman
He was one who never harmed anyone in his long life span
Through the decades of years his friends in numbers had grown
As a singer of old songs he was widely known
Many songs he did sing few had heard of before
And for Tom there was always a call to sing more
A famed voice of Duhallow that will not be heard again
But on tape the good memories of him do remain
Kilcorney’s Tom Goggin he just lived to sing
To lovers of old ballads great joy he did bring
He sang for the love of it not for money or fame
And Duhallow without him will not be the same
A likeable person in his own gentle way
In St Colman’s Cemetery in Macroom his last remains lay
Singers of old songs like Tom was are becoming rare
He had such a beautiful gift for to share
Old cultures in Ireland have been dying fast
But few things in life as is said ever last
Kilcorney’s Tom Goggin he just lived to sing
And to those who love old songs great joy he did bring.
