It’s the last week of March, the third week of the Season of Lent. It was a very exciting week in Millstreet with the Sacrament of Confirmation been given to 97 young boys and girls representing Millstreet, Cloghoula and Cullen schools. Our big church was packed to capacity and the sunny day outside added to the wonder of it all. The Girls from the Presentation Convent School sang the hymns through the ceremony with His Lordship Bishop Ray Browne as Chief Celebrant. Families and extended family members came from many parts of Ireland as well as from many other countries to join their loved ones in the Holy Celebration.
Following the ceremony the Bishop and Priests traveled to Dromagh to impart the Sacrament of Confirmation on a number of Children there, and we would to thank the Clergy for the wonderful ceremonies and congratulate all the boys and girls who were Confirmed and wish them God’s Blessing in the future.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service would like to thank the 110 people who donated blood at their recent visit to Millstreet. Well done to all who gave to this vital service.
The town was a stir on Sunday when the Vintage Club gathered to pay homage to the late Johnny Hickey. Johnny was the founder of the Vintage Club which has brought so much joy to so many people over the years. He was also a popular member of our Pipe Band and the band was out in force to play the cars out of town on a bright and crisp Sunday. Their itinerary took them up Tullig Road which led them past the gates of the Country Park and on to a complex route arriving at the Abbey Hotel in Ballyvourney for tea and scones. Back on board again their drive brought them on towards Kilmeedy and the over the Bealac, which in time brought them to Johnny’s own territory where they stopped outside his house, as a mark of respect. The trip ended with a drive through the planes of Drishane, by kind permission of the Duggan Family and then back to Millstreet where the Wallis Arms served up a delicious dinner to all.
The Vintage club will host a Gala Table Quiz at McCarthy’s Bar on Friday night.
I was delighted to be part of it this time and I’d like to thank the Club for inviting me along and especially Donie Lucey, with whom I traveled. I was struck by the ease at which the trip was run. So much co-operation between members, motor bike sentries at the ready to help if help was needed. All roads and cross roads were signposted, nothing left to chance.
In all 70 cars of every make and colour took part and the scene was nothing less than spectacular when they could be seen snaking along the winding country roads in brilliant sunshine. I loved it. Well done to all concerned.
The Centennial Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be at Kiskeam Church this Friday March 29th at 4 pm and leave on Saturday at 2 pm. Mass on Friday at 7.30 pm and 11 am on Saturday.
Killarney Theatre Co. Will present The Rise and Rise of The Healy Raes at Our GAA Hall on Sunday, March 31st at 8pm.
