The death has taken place of Sr. Mary Marietta, R.S.M., (Patricia Ryan) in Rockhampton, Australia, on Friday 23rd of October 2015, in the loving care of her sisters in religion at the Mercy Mater Hospital after a short illness. Her sister Muriel and brother Philip and his wife, Catherine, were with her during her final illness.
The backup given to the family in Australia, by the Mercy Sisters was second to none. A very special message of thanks is due to Sr. Mary Moynihan, who tirelessly looked after the family and was always at hand with her car.
Sr. Marietta was laid to rest on Tuesday 27th of October 2105. She is predeceased by her brothers Adrian and Leo and her sister, Marie.

“Our dear friend Sr Marietta was farewelled yesterday with a Mass to celebrate her life. Sr Marietta was very supportive of the cultural activities here at the College and she regularly attended our music evenings and cultural events. May her gentle soul rest in peace.” – from the Cathedral College Rockhampton newsletter

I bet all those nuns were happy to receive the option of wearing “everyday” clothes rather than the traditional habit.
God bless them all!
In Rockhampton on the Fitzroy River in sub tropical Queensland where it is often forty degrees
And is often even quite warm in the shade of the trees
Patricia Ryan Sister Marietta from Millstreet in Duhallow’s green and wet countryside
Where she had lived for many years of her life died
One who sacrificed the chance of becoming a mother and somebody’s wife
As a Sister of Mercy in devotion to her God was her calling in life
Her vows to serve the poor for her God she did take
It does take a very special woman such a sacrifice for to make
Perhaps on her flights of fancy she often see Clara in the gray fogs of rain
And walked on the streets of Millstreet Town again
From where her’s was a well known and a beloved face
Her journey in life took her to a sunnier and a far warmer place
A book on her surely would make for a great read
It was a selfless life she had chosen for to lead
She was one that i knew of but never did meet
A marvelous ambassador for humanity from Station road in Millstreet
From Duhallow and Millstreet Town in kilometers far away
The last remains of Patricia Ryan Sister Marietta in eternal lay
In sunny Rockhampton in Queensland she died
With her brother Philip and her sister Muriel and her sister in law Catherine at her bedside.

My dear friend Marietta, my rock, mentor and confidante. Rest in peace. You were always there for me and we share many memories. My special guest at my wedding and my strength in times of crisis. We have always classed you as part of our family and now you are home with your loving Lord. Say hi to Gertie for me. Condolences to your family (s). You were one of a kind and I’m sure that our Lord called you home for a reason. You gave so much of yourself to everyone you knew. You’ll be sadly missed but a smile will always follow remembering the good times. Your work on Earth is done but you’ll be in my heart in so many ways. I guess you’ll still have an ear out when I practice. Love and miss you my dearest friend. God bless you. I’ll treasure our friendship forever.
Our dear friend Sr Marietta, your guidance and love shown to us during our stay in Rockhampton was remarkable. Your ability to teach our Fionnuala music tirelessly was amazing. You showed kindness to everyone that you came across and your ability to tease showed your Irishmess. My Australian English when I came to Rocky was limited and you described these words to me that I still share with people lovingly. I will see you bye and bye. God bless you, We love you lots.
