Eily’s Report – 19th November 2019

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.

The monthly meeting of the Community Council was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday night. It was well attended and many important items were discussed. In union with our Gardaí we are asked to renew our Text Alert accounts for the coming year. The project is proving very successful all over the country, bringing a sense of security to all those who have registered. Happy in the knowledge that our Gardaí are watching out for us at all times and letting us know by phone if something suspicious presents itself. For those who didn’t register at Tuesday’s  nights meeting please know that forms are available at both Wordsworth book shop in town and at Guerin’s Shop in Ballydaly where you will get help if needed. Cost €10. But please bear in mind that the opportunity closes on  November Saturday 30th.

The Millstreet Calendar for 2020 will be in the shops in the near future and proceeds this time will go to cost of the new children’s playground in the Town Park.

There will be no Christmas Party/Market in Millstreet this year.

Many many congratulations to our dear  friend of the airways Patricia Messenger on completing nineteen years of broadcasting with 103. Many thanks Patricia for all you’ve done for us during those long years and we wish you many more in the future.

Listen to Eily’s report on ACast.

A very large crowd attended the Mass at Aubane Social Club last night in memory of the late Anne Keane.  Anne’s sisters Robin and Olive were there as well as friends and acquaintances from far and near. Canon John celebrated the Mass and music was provided by a variety of musicians with a picture of the gentle Anne on the table. Marie Twomey read the Homily which was both sad and joyous and had words that everybody wanted to say. And at the end all those present sang three verses of Amazing Grace.

Following the Mass in good Aubane fashion there was a tempting array of refreshments and  loads of hot tea to wash them down.  People mixed and met and talked and needless to say with memories of their late friend  the part that she played at the Centre over the years. The people who come to dance there every Monday night, thanks to Anne’s  instruction.

Following  the friendly interaction and food the crowd made made their way back into the dancing room for their weekly session, with lots of musicians to lift their spirits. Well done  once more to the Aubane Social Club who are never found  wanting  when it comes to looking after their own.

The IRD Duhallow Awards were held last week  and many congratulations to all those who won awards at the glittering  event. Check them out on the website.

And some lights were already in place near the church on Saturday night for the “Do This In Memory of Me Mass” which was attended by children  (and their parents) who are their first Holy Communion next May. The night was cold and the church was brightly lit and warm. The Community singers attended . Each child put a lighted candle on the alter rail before Mass creating a wonderful glow to the important occasion.

The weather forecast continues to tell us that there is worse to come so let us keep up the drive to stay warm and safe ,and not just for ourselves but those around us.   To borrow a little adage ,”We are each of us Angels with one little wing and we can only fly by embracing one another”.
