From the Cork Independent: It’s a sort of homecoming for Millstreet native JD Kelleher. He can be currently seen in Red Kettle’s production of Edna O’ Brien’s ‘The Country Girls’, which is playing at Cork Opera House until this Saturday (June 16th). Now based in London for over 20 years, JD is delighted to have the chance to be back in Cork and catch up with old friends and family.
“It’s coming full circle as it all started for me here on the stage of Cork Opera House with the Monforts and Eileen Nolan back when I was in my late teens. Getting the opportunity to be back on one of the greatest stages in the country is truly an honour and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”
JD is no stranger to Ireland as he has been involved in an increasing amount of television work here and readers may recognise him from his appearance as Brendan Fitzgerald, in the TG4 soap opera, ‘Ros na Run.’ His character, Brendan Fitzgerald became the soap villain and he came to a muddy end in one of [read more …] “JD Kelleher in ‘The Country Girls’”
Best of luck to the Millstreet GAA Novelty Act who will compete in the All Ireland Finals of Scór Sinsir in the INEC Killarney at 3pm tomorrow (Saturday). They are the only representatives from Cork an the finals and deserve all the support they can get.

Result: Unfortunately the Millstreet GAA Novelty Act didn’t win the All Ireland last Saturday in Killarney, losing out to the Tyrone Group at the last, but having the crowd in stitches during their act. Fair play to them for the enjoyment they gave along the way since a cold night in January in Kanturk Golf Club (Duhallow), Coachford (county semi’s), Ovens (county final), Tallow (Munster semi), Templemore (Munsters), and finally back down to Killarney.
After the phenomenal success of Oklahoma and Showboat Kevin Hough, RTE returns to the Briery Gap to direct the much loved musical comedy Calamity Jane. With classic tunes such as Secret Love, The Black Hills of Dakota and The Windy City made famous by Doris Day, it is guaranteed to be a fun filled entertaining evening which will have the audience singing along. The musical includes a cast and chorus of over 50 who were auditioned by Kevin Hough in January.
