Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to News report 1257 from Millstreet.    Fondest greeting dear friends and I wish you all the very best on this lovely bright and crisp Tuesday morning.

Our Community Council Awards Social was a glittering event at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday night last and the house was full.

Following a wonderful meal which was enjoyed by all,  Noel Buckley took the stand and  gave an interesting speech about all the great things that Millstreet has to offerand about our wonderful achievements in the past and the encouraging future that lies ahead.

There were eleven worthy recipients, for awards, each one or group lauded for their great work in making Millstreet a better place. Then there was music and dancing and merry making until late.

No time to spare St Patricks Day is on our doorstep and the plan is to make it the best yet. There is a wide range of categories to choose from and further to that there will fun and games, sweets and facepainting organised by the Community Council. Our Parade starts of from DairyGold stores at five.

Please bear in mind that parades will be held in Rathmore on Sunday March 15th at 2pm and in Carriganima also on Sunday 15th starting at the later time of 3 pm. Please support these events to the best of your ability. They are very enjoyable and important for the places that run them.

 

Many congratulations to our young Macra team who won the

all Ireland Final of Question Time,  which was in Drogheda.

 

Team members were Eoin O Sullivan, James Buckley, Rebecca Ambrose (Enright) and Niamh O Mahony.

 

Our Scor team are going well as they climb to the top on their  All Ireland Quiz  contest and we wish them the best of Good Luck .

 

Many Congrats to John O Sullivan who won the Senior County Final, for St.John’s in the Resitation section.

 

Cullen Pipe Band will hold their annual Cake Sale after Mass in Cullen on Mother Day March 15th Home baking would be gratefully accepted.

 

A note to say that there will be no WeighIn in Cullen on March 16th the Eve of St Patricks Day.

 

Eucharistic Adoration in Cullen Church every Thursday from 10am to 7pm.

 

 

A  monster Table Quiz will be held at Moll Carthys Bridge on Friday night  March 13th March 20th in Aid of MaryMount Hospice.

 

And still with Fundraising. Please be on the lookout for sponsorship cards for James Winters, the brave young man who is about to run the full length of the Sahara Dessert, in an effort to raise funds for Kanturk Hospital where his Dad has been a patient for many years  and also for Millstreet hospital where his Auntie Dola O Byrne, was often so well looked after and finally passed away. And also for the Irish Cancer Society.

Sponsorship cards are available over a wide area.

 

The death has taken place of  93 yr old. Mr Joe Garvey ,who will always be remembered as the man, who along with Garrett and Rita Hickey who started up the First Secondery School in Millstreet,  May his kind soul  RIP.

The Weekly Lotto Draw was held at Tarrants Bar on Sun day Night Numbers Drawn were, 1.2, 19, 27 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went  Leo Leader,Glenleigh. The seller was Patsy Mac and he got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Donagh Hickey Coole. €20 each to William O’ Regan,Clara Rd, Patricia Carroll Drishane Rd,  Tony McCarthy c/o Tom Carroll, Noreen Keating c/o Ann Burke, Catherine Lynch c/o Tarrants Bar. Our Community Singers will attend an organised singing event at Harringtons Bar in Glengarriffe on Sunday March 15th.

 

This Sunday March 15th is Mother’s Day and I want to wish all Mothers all over the Globe a very Happy Mother’s day.

 

LTV Millstreet are putting on  new shows every week on Line.and they can be viewed any time. Also Dan Joe Kelleher will transmit a lovely recording that he made some years ago of a Mass in Ballydaly Church. Be on the lookout for it this Sun day March 15th at 5,30. A show not to  be missed.

 

Another show not to be missed will be at Ionad Cultura on  Friday night March 20th.

Millstreet Country Park: The beautiful Country Park will be open on Mothers Day, March 15th (this coming Sunday). They are up and running for 20 years, and during the winter there has been a huge refurbishment to the visitor centre and park amenities.
