Hello,
My name is Gillian and I am going to be the Library Branch Manager in Millstreet from July 2022. I am delighted to be given this opportunity to work in the library in my hometown. I have worked almost fifteen years in the library service where I was predominantly based in Macroom but I also did a lot of relief work in many other libraries across the county over the years.
I look forward to meeting and working with you all.
The Library is a wonderful service.
You can use some library services without becoming a member, you can read books/newspapers, consult reference material, print & photocopy documents in the library without being a member. However, you will need to join the library if you want to borrow books or other items, access online services & much more.
Library membership is completely free for everyone. You can join at any age and use all of the library services. All you need to do is complete an application form in the library and produce photographic identification and proof of current address to activate your membership.
Children and young people under the age of eighteen years must get the permission of a parent or guardian to join the library. Parents/guardians are responsible for their children in the library, their children’s selections & use of library materials & services, including access to the internet.
Your library card is individual to you & may not be used by anyone else. Bring your card to the library every time you visit.
With a library membership, you have access to our wide range of online services & resources, such as your online account, e Books & e Audiobooks, e Magazines, online learning courses, online language learning courses & much more. For more information on how to access these resources, please visit:

Your library card can be used in any public library across the country.
For our junior members we are running the annual Summer Stars Reading Programme again this summer. Make sure you call into Millstreet Library to register & be one of thousands of children throughout Cork County who are taking part in the adventure, fun & pleasure of reading over the summer. The registration pack includes a reading card, bookmark & pencil for each child. At the end of the summer each participant who reads at least one book or e book during the summer will receive a Certificate of Achievement. There might also be some spot prizes during the summer so don’t be left out, make sure to register as soon as possible.
In celebration of Summer Stars, Cork County Library & Arts Service are inviting you to design a children’s library card on the theme of “I Love Reading”.
There are two age categories: 6 – 8 & 9 – 12 so plenty of chances to win. There will be local prizes of €10 book tokens & an overall prize of €50 book tokens. The overall winning designs will feature on our new library cards!
Pick up an entry form from the library. All entries must be returned to your library by Friday, August 19th 2022. Good Luck!
