Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1262 from Millstreet. Fondest Greeting  dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this glorious  sunny Tuesday morning.

The beautiful weather is turning everybody’s thoughts to the great out-of-doors. Be it pottering in the garden, painting walls, going for walks ,and childrens playgrounds, it is great to see one and all making good use of the sunny days. There is a marked increase in the number visitors coming to climb our mountains and see our beauty spots and we’d like to extend a fond Cead Mile Failte to  them all.

The Museum at the Carnegie Hall is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 am to 4pm and there you will find all there is to see in Millstreet and what has been happening for hundreds of years. The contact number there is 087 6521850.

Meanwhile out around the Town there are many notice boards again giving full information on what Millstreet has to offer.

And our vibrant Tidy Town Association are already preparing for the season ahead  and they  would like to invite one and all to a very important Litter Pick Up meeting  of 2015 in the Town Square, at 7pm on 23rd April Thursday. Our Town has won this competition in previous years and they are confidant that they can do it again, with a little help from everybody. It would be worth €1750  to the Association, which would go a long way to help as their annual spend  can be up to €10,000

So please everybody, come out and help .

It is important to note that  the adjudication will begin on the 27th April and the entire town is being judged with particular emphasis on Murphy’s Terrace from 27th April to 6th May.they would really appreciate all the support they can get,  That is Litter Pick Up, Thursday, 23rd April, 7pm. Meeting in The Square.

And please bear in mind that all approach roads and country roads in general must be kept litter free.

 

At a recent meeting of the Association a special presentation was made to  the lovely Kathleen Crowley Drishanebeg who is a founder member and has given 30 years service to our Tidy Towns Association.

Roger Cresswell who was another great supporter, along with his lovely wife Wendy will leave Millstreet this week for their native England. Before leaving the LTV2 crew recorded a very interesting program with Roger, and it will be featured in a future program. They will be missed.

Commisserations to the popular Teddy Herlihy who was unsuccessful in the final of the Voice of the Glen at the weekend. But  he still has to be complimented on doing so well in reaching the final.

And still with the Glen Theatre. Their Drama Group have staged their hilarious comedy Family Fever by Sam Cree, in the past few weeks. And the good news is that they will do it all again this Sunday night. And then they’re taking it to far away Armagh City on May 2. The Transitional  Students of our Community School will hold their Gala fashion Show at the Community School on Thursday April 23rd.  with no less than ten stores taking part.

Always a glittering event.

 

 

The annual Monster Mac will be held at the Country Park on Saturday April 25th. And please be reminded that the Park has a wide and varied lineup of events planned for the coming months. Contact number 02970810.

 

Many congratulations to the Aubane Social Club who celebrated their 40th birthday with a gala social at Macroom’s Riverside Hotel on Saturday night. We wish them many more years of continued success.

 

And talking of birthdays Its that time of year again when the [popular Joanne O Riordan and myself share our birthdays on April 24th. She’s 19.

And a Happy 30th to my Granddaughter  Georgina Stanley whose birthday will  be on April25th.

 

The annual Cloghoula Pattern Day will be held  in the School grounds, on Sunday May 24th.

 

Feile na Bealtaine has been by  launched by IRD Duhallow  and  copies their cathologue are widely available. pick one up and see what is in it for you. It has events for every day of the month of May  so there is something for everyone..

Public Meeting organised by Independent candidate Stephen O Riondan will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel to-night starting at 8pm.

 

And on Thursday night all Farmers are invited to the same venue for a talk on the future of Farming  minister for Agricultue Mr Simon Covney will attend. The meeting is organised by Anne Collins.

 

Eucharistic Adoration Pilgrimmage to Knock is on next Sunday April 26th. Bus leaving Millstreet €20.

Prayers were said in our church during the week for Karen Buckley and her Family.

 

Youth 2000 Ireland will hold a Youth Retreat in St.Brendan’s College Killarney on April 24-26th Details on our church door.

 

The recent Coffee morning organised by Mary FitzGerald  in the GAA Hall realised €1.400. Many thanks to all who supported it.
