The bad weather did not deter the supporters of the annual dip in the Blackwater on Saturday. But in the interest of safety a shallow part of the swollen river was cordoned off where a great number of brave people dipped in the icy waters for a good cause. Proceeds will go to the Cork County Association for Mental Health Care.

Well done to all concerned.

A monster Table Quiz will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday next January 31st to raise funds for some of our 5th year students who are going to Lourdes at Easter as helpers with the IHCPT. They deserve our best support.

Our own Joanne O Riordan continues to make waves, and on February 15th her life story, so far, compiled by her brother Stephen will be screened in Dublin. With many other countries showing interest in our wonder girl. We wish her God’s Speed.

The Marian Players in Rathmore got off to a flying start at the weekend with their beautiful colourful Panto Robinson Cruso. And they are doing it all again tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday and Saturday  Feb.1st Followed by a Matinee on Sunday at three. Their contact Number is 064 77 585 26.

And still with Rathmore. The Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club are holding a six weeks training course Starting on Sunday February 9th. It’s a beginner/starter course and it starts out from Teach Iosagan in Rathmore on 10am.

Church Gate Collection this weekend is in aid of our highly successful Camogie Club. They need our support.

Great Weigh loss in Cullen, in spite of the bad weather 45 people WeighIn in Cullen on Monday night and 100 pounds weight lost.  More of the same on Monday night next and for the coming 6 weeks. The the weighing by Dr Casey is followed by  music  and dancing, and aerobics each night and  it’s all in aid of the Cullen Special Needs association.

Local Television is on your screens this week from Macroom on Wednesday at 9.30 and Millstreet on Thursdays at 10. with The Station opening on Sunday evenings at 5. Usually with Mass or some other religious program followed by the repeat of all the weeks programs.

February is upon us and St Bridgets Crosses spring to mind. A note here from Breda, to say that a St.Bridgets Cross making workshop will be held at our local Library on Friday,January 31st from 3 to 4 pm and all are welcome.

Our Community Choir meet every Thursday night at the Pastoral Centre from 7.30 and all are welcome. Their main aim is to revive old songs and bring them back to the people.

Our Church Choir Practice is at the same venue on Wednesday nights starting at 8 and new members welcome.

Bingo in the GAA Hall every Thursday night.

Forty five drive at the Canon O Donovan Centre every Tuesday night .Proceeds go to the Centre fund, and all are welcome.

Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night  and for the first time in its history the draw was conducted in candlelight. The rough weather caused an all out power cut and the humble candle was very welcome.

Numbers drawn were  8, 16. 20 24 and the Jackpot was not won.

€100 went to Derry Healy Murphy’s Terrace. The seller was Clara Inn and they got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Michael Tarrant Annagloor. €20 each to Desmond O Sullivan, Dooneen.
