A truly inspirational group of Cyclists and their Supporters arrived in Millstreet on the evening of Sat. 23rd Aug. 2025 participating in “Jude’s Journey” which has involved the travelling of a magnificent route from Malin to Mizen. Tomorrow (Sunday) is when Mizen area is scheduled to be reached. Support for the highly praiseworthy Project has been outstanding. The special iDonate page allows everyone to support. Here we share the background to “Jude’s Journey” and a selection of images which we recorded this Sat. evening before the wonderfully dedicated group left with Eugene Guerin, his Family and Friends for Boherbue where very welcome refreshments were going to be provided. We also arranged to record a Radio Interview with Jude’s Mum, Sandra. This will be broadcast later on www.corkmusicstation.com on my “Radio Treasures” programme. The full background story may be viewed here. Tap on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)

Malin to Mizen: Jude’s Journey – Gavin’s Legacy
December 5th, 2023 – A Day We’ll Never Forget
“I’m sorry… but unfortunately, Jude has cancer.”
Jude was born in 2021 with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (ACC), leading to Global Developmental Delay. Life was challenging, but manageable—until October 2023, when a lump on Jude’s jaw turned out to be Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS).
Three weeks before Christmas, we met his team at St. John’s Ward in Crumlin. The treatment plan:
- 9 cycles of chemotherapy
- 28 sessions of proton radiation
- 6 months of maintenance chemo
As Ireland doesn’t offer the needed paediatric proton therapy, we had to travel abroad to Essen Germany or Manchester, UK. Thankfully Manchester accepted Jude’s case. Organising the trip was daunting… until John Glynn called.
I explained our complex needs, John replied, “Send me your passports. I’ll take care of everything.” And he did.
John and Jayne Glynn of The Gavin Glynn Foundation arranged everything: travel, accommodation, expenses — allowing us to focus on Jude. For 7 tough weeks in Manchester, they checked in constantly, ensuring we never felt alone.
The Glynn’s know this road — they lost their son Gavin to the same cancer Jude was diagnosed with. In his memory, they’ve turned heartbreak into hope. In 2024 alone, their foundation helped 55 families access vital treatment abroad.
The Gavin Glynn Foundation believes that all children with cancer deserve the best care, wherever in the world that might be.
On August 20th, 2025, a group of seven incredible individuals will take on an extraordinary challenge: cycling from Malin Head in North Donegal to Mizen Head in South Cork — a gruelling 620 km journey over just five days.
Leading the way is our inspirational family friend, Seán Keane of the Lisheen Cooneal Cycling Club. This is not a challenge for the faint-hearted. But when Seán heard about Jude’s courageous journey through cancer, and the life-changing support we received from The Gavin Glynn Foundation, his generous spirit kicked in — and he stepped up to help.
Seán and his crew are riding not just for Jude, but for every child who needs access to cancer treatment abroad. Their strength, determination, and compassion remind us that no family should face this journey alone.
Jude’s cancer journey is over but unfortunately someone else’s has just begun.
Please support this worthy cause.
Thank you
— Sandra, Ruairi, Cillian and Jude Mangan
“Because of Gavin, Jude had a chance. Because of you, others will too.”
