On This Day, 22nd August 2025, Pádraig and Michael Recalled

On this exact day,  Friday,  22nd August 2025 we remember Pádraig Pearse and Michael Collins.   On this very day in 1915 – 110 years ago – Pádraig Pearse addressed a very large gathering of people in a field on Station Road, Millstreet.   This is remembered on a special outdoor plaque at Corkery’s Bar. And it was on this day also – 103 years ago – that Michael Collins died at Béal na Bláth.   God rest them both.

Pictured some years ago beside the replica of Michael Collins’s famous Rolls Royce Armoured Car, “Sliabh Na mBan” – Millstreet Pipe Band who have been the official Pipe Band appearing at the Annual Commemoration ceremony at Béal na Bláth.

Michael Fehily and Tim Foley at the Homestead of Michael Collins. Our Radio Interview which we broadcast with both Michael Fehily and Tim Foley during which Tim sings a wonderfully moving song in tribute to the great Michael Collins.

Thank You

On behalf of Eimear’s family, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to our wonderful community for the incredible support shown for our recent coffee afternoon in aid of the Irish Kidney Association.

This gathering was held in loving memory of Eimear, who passed away ten years ago at the age of just 29. In her final act of generosity, Eimear became an organ donor — a gift that gave the precious chance of life to others. Her kindness and spirit continue to inspire us every day.

Thanks to your generosity, time, and goodwill, our coffee afternoon — along with our online fundraiser “Celebrating Eimear” — raised the phenomenal total of €11,500.42 for the Irish Kidney Association. We are especially grateful to those who supported us online and from afar, whose kindness and connection meant so much despite the miles between us.

Whether you donated, attended, helped organise, baked, poured tea, contributed online, or simply shared a kind word, please know that your support means more than we can ever fully express.

Our community has shown that even in times of loss, love and compassion can shine brightly. Eimear’s legacy lives on not only through those she saved but also through the unity and kindness you have all shown.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.
