Eily’s Report – 22nd July

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a cáirde and welcome to my report.

Well it promises to be a very exciting week here in our town. The International  Horse Show kicks off tomorrow Wednesday July 23 and from then on it will be horses,  horses all the way until August 3rd.   Bringing entries from seven countries to our town. New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden,  the U.S.A. France, Portugal, Great Britain, plus lreland, promising to bring large crowds to view the cream of the worlds bloodstock battling it out for the honours  at the historic grounds of the Green Glens and Drishane.  Right on its wake the International Horse Show will be followed by the exciting Mounted Games Championships which will run for the week July 28rd to Aug. 3. With entries from as many as ten foreign countries attending.  Their visit will be highlighted by their parade through the town.  Organised by our Community Council, who are pulling out all the stops to make it a very happy and memorable occasion for all. The Pipe band will be out and the Town will bear the flags of all the visiting countries.  Some windows dressed to represent them. The prizegiving will be done at the Town Square. Each team of ponies will carry the flag of the home country  aloft and they will be described by the commentator  of the day as they as they prance along. Those who are lucky enough to win in their class will be called to accept their prizes.   Volunteers and a Garda presence will ensure the safety and the enjoyment of all.  The previous time when they were here, the  organisers were overjoyed by the reception which they received from the Community of Millstreet. Remarking that in all the places where they hold their events around the globe that Millstreet was the only town to give them such a warm welcome. And to show their gratitude they donated money to some local charities.
